I start today compile of 2.6.39.4 kernel. One real usage for it is that I can enable new broadcom wireless driver with firmware. It will be even next woof. Jim3630 got Barry Kaulers attention for it. Thank you both.

New kernel will be intel atom optimized as this previous kernel, which is close for Pentium 4. Not sure yet should I enable hyperthreading support or not. I will check my 2.6.39.3 specs first.

After compiling, making pet, creating sources sfs, compiling acpi_call, ndiswrapper, broadcom wl driver, it is time to build 5.X.7.

For those, who asks about 3.0.X kernel. Not yet. Barry has stated that Puppies has scripts which relies on 2.6.X kernel. Because I dont know implication of that, there wont be 3.0.X kernel until Barry gives green light.

Kernel compiled. New packages processed. I will do first build today later and check what I have missed.
Small utilities and don570 Quick launch updates, also other folder mounting improvements. Pbookmarks added also.
Major thing is still kernel update and support for new broadcom driver which relieves some troublesome broadrom wireless chip owners.
Trayfm is my latest pick, I have fm account and that small app plays fm radio nicely from the tray.
Also 01mickos get_libreoffice works after changing wget binary.

Package processing missed four packages. Now cooking started again.

While waiting...I created theme pack for e17. Install the pet and you get 6 themes more. Or extract the pet and add manually some of them to the /root/.e/e/themes.
Themes are not my design but hunted down mostly from the net e17 theme sites.

Dpup Exprimo 5.X.7 has been uploaded. It uses now intel atom optimized (like previous) 2.6.39.4 kernel, brcm8211 driver and firmware included, also ndiswrapper. SMP, hyperthreading, automatic process grouping etc...

Gparted now static 0.7 ( no, I havent had energy to compile static latest version), some new apps (new in this distro), like Fmtray radio app, Fbreader for ebooks, Flash updater, application updates, some icon fixes.... Something else I have forgot.
I used DPUP Exprimo SMP multicore version as test bed, so I had no need for profound testing.

I changed JWM as default wm. Some people had problems with certain graphics and e17..... And there is superbly working Openbox-Fbpanel by Dave S in exprimo repo.

Dave S. I suggest you to have both.

Well, this one has only some improvements comparing to the SMP version.
With your dual core, SMP version is more optimized for it. Not sure how much it affects. This version is good for older, unicore comps also. For most of them. And intel atom comps should be able to use this version. I would call this one as generic as I will go. My main target is not oldest comps there are available.

But...testing is fun, isnt it.....

Couple of questions about JWM you probably cant answer

Why do the windows have pointy corners here, and rounded ones in other late pups?
Why does double-click on title bar maximise window instead of shading it as is the default. (This happens in all recent Puppy versions, not just Exprimo)?
General interest only, no problem. JWM has no shade button, so I fix it to a keybinding

I use JWM-500-1.pet and jwmconfig2-20101229-bk1.pet from packages_puppy-common repo. That is the only answer that I can give you.
You are right, I dont have a clue about rounded corner versus other kind. I remember threads concerning them, but that is about 2 years ago.

I dont even know which scripts causes the change or is it even inside binary.

Maybe some one more enlightened will illuminate us. I am interested to hear it.

Also you probably need to refresh gtk theme before it changes the appearance to meant one.
Thats what is needed in e17 environment.

I am not quite sure which one you meant. Missing gtk theme effect or really jwm one. The sharp corners problem due to missing gtk theme effect has been with e17 all the time, maybe it has repercussions in jwm side also. I mean after changing from e17 to jwm. Maybe the wm launcher or .xinitrc would need updating.
Radky could know more about this.

In fact I liked the older jwm behavior more. I am reluctantly started to use 500 version.

Works nicely on my Samsung NB30 netbook.

Still no joy on the touchpad horizontal and vertical scroll.

EDIT: I was able to get the extra touchpad features working through the Setup - Mouse/keyboard Wizard.

Question 1: Why two desktop buttons for SM 2.3.3, one labeled "Browser" and one "PuppyLinux in Web"?

Question 2: Is there a way to disable the Reboot/Shutdown "PSD" pop-up? It is a nuisance extra step, especially on a netbook that does not have an optical drive.

Question 3: What's up with Gdmap? I have never seen it function on any Puppy distro over many years. Is there an assumed-everyone-knows manual setting that must be made before it will function, please?

I want to show in my builds the efforts of Puppy Community. That Puppy Linux in Web is one of them. Think about it as compulsory advertisement of great voluntary work which makes Puppy so nice and fun.
I would call that icon also one of those nice things the developer can do. Lol.

There is settings in PupShutdown to disable that pop up. Open Preferences > configuration options > setting and then you see the shutdown dialog option yes/no. Well...mess with it, you will find it at last.

Graphical disk map seems to work as it should. In Rox right click some folder and choose gdmap from right click menu. You will get the file sizes as visual presentation. The bigger the box, the bigger the file, and you see the file name in the bottom. What else it can do...some one else can tell....

How would anyone know to do any of that?

Help for Gdmap is no help ... locating it in the Filesystem makes it available to the average user ... perhaps it should default to /tmp or something and include a simple pop-up instruction such as you just posted?

I found that this floating transparent clock
will work in e7 but it is opaque in jwm.

Right click on clock window bar and make it permanently
float on top of other windows.

I tried in Dpup-5X7 SMP
When issuing commands like sdptool or hcitool, nothing seems to execute and there are no error messages.
I tried also bluetooth-properties and bluetooth-wizard.
Same result.
And yes the BT dongle is plugged in the USB port.

There is no bluetooth icon in the tray.

I cant help much with bluetooth. I dont use it much. Or better, not at all. I take the mini SD card out of the cell phone, then I stick it to the SD card adapter and then I stick that to my laptop inbuild card reader. Thats my way.

Someone else needs to debug bluetooth connections. For me, I have found better way to do file transfers. I handle that way all our families music transfers to the cell phones. My kids have been satisfied. And I get their music.
