Abiword 3 won't save document as pdf (Solved)

#1 Post by Pete »

Hi all

Just tried abiword 3.0.0 on Slacko 6.3 32 bit and it just closes when I try to save a document as pdf.

Anyone know how to fix this?

Also get some other strange message about memory when it starts up.
Screenshot attached.

EDIT:
Also ran ldd and no missing dependencies.

After more research, it seems that newer versions do not ship with pdf.

From here: http://www.abisource.com/wiki/FaqCreatingPDFs
Can I use the PDF plugin mentioned on the PluginMatrix page?

No, this plugin hasnt been maintained in many years and doesnt ship with newer versions of AbiWord.
Oh well, found a way around it, used cups-pdf.

ABI Word has always been a bit "unstable." You should check to make sure you have these minimums per the ABIWord.org website:

GTK+ 2.12 or newer

At least 16MB RAM (embedded systems probably won't require more than 8)

I suggest that you may want to choose the Print --> Print to File option which creates a PDF, as well. Also, ABI Word has a new version, 3.0.1 which may have fixed some items but I didn't see making PDF's as one of the fixes....

Hope this helps!

PS - You may want to try Libre Office for any significant writing projects. I've lost some projects years back with ABI so I tend not to rely on it very much, though they have made some significant changes since then...

Hi slavvo67

I see what you mean by abiword being a bit unstable but wanted something a bit lighter than Open/Libre Office.

Have gtk3 and 2GB RAM.

I agree with you, so used print to pdf option.

Thanks for your input.
