I've tried adding the sources to Minetest to TahrPup (and I'm pretty sure I've done them wrong), download 0.4.14 debfiles and the only thing I can get to work is 0.4.9 which is in PPM. (This makes it incompatible with most new mods.

The only Puppy instructions were for Slacko and they have disappeared into the ether of lost webpages. The instructions to compile from sources include about 10 different ways including git. I am at a loss. The sound of weeping children fills my ears! Help, some minetest person, please!

No problem in installing Minetest 0.4.14 and all its addon mods in either MintPup or DebianDog Jessie. My two kids have been using it for quite a while now:

Used jessie backports for DDjessie:

And the following site for MintPup, as far as I recall:

https://launchpad.net/~minetestdevs/+ar ... ntu/stable

Unfortunately, we haven't tried it in any woof-CE Puppy, so can't help you with any dependency-related (or other) issues with that.

Tell me more about these Pups. Ubuntu is a pain because of its defaulting to ondemand on this Athlon 64. I haven't used them, but I will to get the kids on the the "thing." Which is better?

There are a few other DebianDogs you can find in Puppy Projects forum area.

Best to just read the download and install info on their forum pages - too much to explain otherwise. These are not Pups per se, but Debian-Live spins made puppy-like in size and functionality with full Debian/Ubuntu compatibility including Debian dpkg/apt/Synaptics full dependency-resolving package management. Like Puppy, they also boot to root user by default.

I'm not saying DebianDog is better than Puppy, but it is sometimes easier to get larger apps working without any effort in DebianDog because of the full Debian package management capability.

Thanks-- I appreciate that. It does seem easier to do it that way (the original problem was solved; wife just went and found a workaround to install Ubuntu on son's computer.)

That said, now my own curiosity is stoked, as I am getting a wee bit tired of using Xubuntu on my new machine but I am probably going to switch back to Slacko64 (I wasn't sure how to install Xfce on Slacko64, I am no JWM fan) so I am going to probably start my quest for Minetest compiling on that in the next couple of days to put out a step by step (or ask for help on how to put on a step by step) so I can have Minetest while getting back on Puppy.

I'm just not a fan of the overcomplicated system maintenance program that seems to slow the whole system down. It's not the newest of machines, but it's pretty fast, and I know it runs faster than this.

grab minetest from here (click the 'any series' button and choose trusty, then 'filter') https://code.launchpad.net/~minetestdev ... /+packages

it was missing a few dependencies for me, but as you've already installed minetest it might work straight away.
if not ....'right click' on /usr/bin/minetest, choose 'ListDD' and then click the 'missing' button. use the 'find's box in the PPM to install any missing stuff
