I'm not sure if there is a conversion tool or not but if there isn't you could always extract the package and then use dir2pet to create a new modern pet package.

I think that the dot pup files are for very old versions of puppylinux so it may not be advised to use them on modern versions of puppy such as tahrpup.

Which packages are you trying to install?

Which packages are you trying to install?
Tuxracer-0.6.1-for-Puppy2.10-and-newer.pup

All it does is extract.

If there were a pet available for this game it would have been preferred.

I suggest you not try to use dotpup packages.

Why?

Those are very old programs.
They were used in the very early days of Puppy.
Puppy worked differently, in the early days, and dotpups are designed for how Puppy worked in the very early days.
Any dotpup you find is probably not going to work in the Puppies you have now.

Pet package system replaced the dotpup package system.
pet packages are made for how Puppy now works.
Try to find what you want as a pet.

But, if you really want to try using a dotpup package.
This has the procedure:
http://barryk.org/puppylinux/development/createpet.htm
Look at how to convert a dotpup to a pet

Give dir2pet a try. It's pretty straight forward. If you are using a save file turn off auto-save until you've tested it. If you are using a save folder you can try booting into no-save-file mode.

I think dir2pet is probably included with tahrpup but if not you can download it from:

Tuxracer

Have you done a search for this in the PPM (Puppy Package Manager)?

I am using Xenialpup and it has several listed in PPM.

The Deb wouldn't even create a menu entry, and wouldn't open when I used the command line.

Try the download and install again with PPM.

The first time I did it, I got the data files package and some other stuff, but not the main Tuxracer program.
Had to use PPM again to get that.

Look in PPM's uninstall and see what you got.

Mine shows this:

The game does look quite nice. Latest release is 0.7.4 which I have been able to compile from source in Puppy along with the SFML dependency without much difficulty. Debian Stretch repo offers 0.7.4 as .deb but Debian Wheezy and Jessie repos offer older versions. I posted a bit more about it here:-
