Love the speed, but....

#6 Post by WhoDo »

...what's with the font rendering?

I haven't tried Opera since Puppy 2.01 came out with an Opera browser as standard.

I love the speed of this new version. It loads quicker than Swiftfox and just snaps into view, and displays pages on my favourite sites as well as Swiftfox and better than IE7. What bugs me is the yucky font rendering. Swapping fonts doesn't seem to make any difference. Didn't I read about this being a problem elsewhere on the forum?

I would be very tempted to give up my processor-specific Swiftfox if it wasn't for those awful fonts. Any clues?

Cheers
PS How uncouth of me  ... THANK YOU Darkerror05 for going to the trouble of creating and uploading this dotpup. Much appreciated.

In 2.13 we changed to international dejavu fonts

#7 Post by Lobster »

In 2.13 we changed to international dejavu fonts as the default. There have been problems with rendering, some in Seamonkey but perhaps worse in Opera . . .

Could be to do with that.

Change the default font and see if that helps

Changed everything - and I mean everything - back to Nimbus Sans. Result is usable; certainly not as bad as it was. Still not great but I can live with it. Thanks crusty.

Recommend you install the 'bitstream' Dotpup - then change all your fonts in Opera to 'Bitstream vera sans' &/or 'Bitstream sans serif' - fonts on-screen will display very clear and concise - very easy on the eyes ..
3 x boot:- ASROCK VIA 'all-in-one' m/b; AMD Duron 1.8Ghz+; 1.0GB RAM; 20GB hdd (WinXP Pro); 80GB hdd (MEPIS 3.4-3/Puppy v2.15CE Frugal); 1GB USB pendrive (Puppy 2.15CE Frugal); CD/DVDRW; 17" LCD monitor; HSF 56k modem... MEPIS is great.. Puppy ROCKS..
