Can't Persist a Multiboot USB

#1 Post by johnywhy »

hi,

i'm trying to persist multiple linux ISO's to a flash drive, without success.

Easy2Boot successfully installs and boots TahrNOP, but i'm unable to persist the save-file to the usb drive. Maybe i'm going about it the wrong way?

if i locate the save-file on the mounted USB drive, then the save-file is not found during boot.

should i run a boot-mount utility?'

Or use a different multi-boot tool?

Also tried Yumi-- save-file did not load on boot. Would be great if i can get persistence with Yumi, since Yumi is a nice tool.

thx

can you post an image of what is on the USB drive.

I want to see what is being used as the boot loader.
Also, how you actually have TahrNOP and it's save installed on the USB drive.
The things they do not tell you, are usually the clue to solving the problem.

i promise i will when i try.

are you saying isobooter can support multiboot with persistence?

from what i've read, it sounds like persisting Mint on a usb drive works a bit differently than persisting puppy.

thx!

i must apologize. i decided multi-booting flash drives is asking for trouble. i'll let others pursue this topic, if of-interest.

for now i decided the cleanest, simplest single-puppy approach is to make 2 partitions on the flash drive, then do a simple live-iso install to the boot partition on the flash. On shutdown, i put the save-file onto the other partition.

cheers

I would tell you how to do it, but you will not answer my questions.

I have several usb flash drives with multiple puppy installs.
I can boot into any of them.

you asked me to send a pic of the contents of the flash drive, but the drive is now blank, as i've decided multibooting a flash drive is risky :(

i'm a bad dog

Did you try the .isopup file extension with Easy2Boot?

johnywhy. Have you seen this? http://www.easy2boot.com/add-payload-fi ... ersistence
Methodology is the key. Otherwise, try going 'Old School' and simply extracting the ISO's contents to a folder and then utilizing Grub4DOS as the bootloader. It works for me.

Ya, me too. I don't think I've even bothered to try any other bootloader on flash drives for a long time. I've yet to find anything at all that Grub4DOS can't (or won't) boot...

It just detects everything.

We may have escaped the worst of the snow, mate (five inches in 2 hours Tuesday evening), but the 'Beast from the East' has been roaring full in our faces this side o' the country. I've never felt so bloody cold in all my life, I tell ya; and with the heart meds the quacks have got me on, my hands feel like ice-cubes at the best of times. This last few days..? Nah, you do not want to know..!! :)
