myself, I am using 2.30 as it is small (39 Mb as tar.bz2 / 40 Mb as *.deb, or 80 Mb installed) and does really all what I requires from a browser (excepted discretion: each one having access to the PC can open the idiotic ~/.mozilla dir excepted if you erase it before restart / shutdown or if you use no saving system). you only have to add a libflashplayer.so in size from 9.747 up to 15 Mb (both installed) depending of your needs of compatibility with the requirements of the providers of the flash objects you are using (google's youtube is satisfyed with a version 15 Mb sized)

2.30 is, as far as I know, the last release with the included language xul using the lib libxul.so (expanded 59 Mb ; the SliTaz get-flash-plugin package installs a firefox with over 80 Mb as dependencie of flash allthough it don't use firefox because the wonderfull actual tazpanel, core of the graphical administration of the system in the own browser tazweb, needs webkit! I did try to activate flash without that heavy firefox and did until now never more have success! hm webkit + an hidden firefox, that is an heavy environment else if you consider that midori and xombrero are operable with only some kb more...). didiwiki seems don't to be easily operable so that SliTaz must offer other fater wikis (different ones). and the hidden firefox is less interess for other usages as developpers (so instantbird etc.) are sad to encountre each day actualisations of firefox... is firefox really so insecure or is that a commercial manipulation to force to upgrade firefox according secret commercial bases with for ex. Adobe?

I've been looking at the performance of recent 64 bit releases,
and have been quite satisfied. Fatdog 720/721 includes SM 2.48
which uses Firefox 51 back end.

On Xenial64 7.5 and Tahr64 6.06 I've installed SM 2.49.2 which
uses Firefox 52.6 back end. Very good performance on all kinds
of web sites including a variety of videos.

I use:
1. no extensions
2. latest flash player
3. MVPS hosts file (ad scrubbing)

From the standpoint of (current) performance, I'd rank SM right
up there with Firefox quantum, Google Chrome, Waterfox and
Basilisk. Haven't found a web site that gives any of them
a problem.

SM 2.49.2

fortunately it's still possible to build SM under use of gtk2 and without pulseaudio.
I'm using version 2.49.2 and have to say "very stable and fast".
Up to now without problems.

After four weeks usage of SM 2.49.3 my statement:
- up to now absolutely stable
- low CPU usage ( don't blame SM if you watch a h264 encoded video and CPU usage is exploding ! )
- memory usage is okay

Screenshot shows that SM is suited for older hardware too ( but SM needs a SSE2 supporting CPU )
Seamonkey running on my old laptop with Intel T2450 CPU and 1 GB RAM ( and this hardware is really slow )

Anybody know how to update seamonkey please.?

At the moment updater is disabled by default.
The only way is to replace the old version by a new one manually.
You can use the package manager for this.
The seamonkey folder which contains the stored preferences and personally data like emails, address-book and so on doesn't become deleted.
It remains under ~/.mozilla/seamonkey and the new seamonkey version is able to use these data.

so how exactly do i do that please?

1. launch Puppy Package Manager
2. click the "uninstall" button
3. click the installed seamonkey version to mark for uninstallation ( and seamonkey so libs package if present, this is dependent of installed SM version )
4. click the "Remove package" button ( now seamonkey package/s will be deleted )
5. click "uninstall" button once again
6. click the button with the tools on it -> Update database -> Update now ( confirm all questions by pressing the enter key )
7. when ready press ok ( now Package manager becomes restarted automatically )
8. type seamonkey into the search field and press enter
9. click the desired version and the button "Do it"
10. when installation successful finished close package manager

IMPORTANT !!!
11. if you want to use an existing profile in your new SM version ( DON'T LAUNCH SM BY CLICK ON ICON OR MENU ENTRY NOW !!! )
12. open a terminal and type: seamonkey -migration
13. press enter key and SM will launch and migrate your existing profile
14. close SM

that's all

Now SM is ready to use
and of course to launch by icon or menu click

Thanks norgo but it is not seeing version 2.49 the latest one.

I have downloaded the new seamonkey v2.49 and it is sitting in my downloads folder.i have removed v2.46.

1.where is the downloaded seamonkey tar.2z to be extracted to...?
how do i proceed to update seamonkey from here.?

You'd normally extract it to the directory which contained your previous Seamonkey installation, or simply overwite that previous one. That way all your symlinks, menu entries, and any desktop icons, should still be good.

However, before you go any further, better read this. You'll see you may be limited to Seamonkey 2.48 depending on which exact Puppy you're using and whether it can take an upgrade to GTK3.

what Distribution and version you are using ?
what kind of CPU is working inside your computer ?
It's not recommendable to extract any archives and to place into your system.
Please use the package manager for installation.
Package manager checks and installs dependencies if needed and removes all files in case of uninstallation.

Please use a more recent slacko version.
This one here is made by Sailor Enceladus and recommendable.

It's basing on Slackware 14.2
The latest SM version is install able via PPM

I don't run 64-bit Pups often but I've run Seamonkey since its Netscape days. And I only update when I find a problem with new software or am feeling reckless.

I've run 2.46 for at least a year now on all my Pups, with no problems and haven't been feeling very reckless nor in the wise words of 'Yes Minister', 'courageous'.

Anyway......

Try:
1. Extract the tar.bz with Puppy (click on the .tar.bz file?)
2. A new directory should be generated in the directory where the tar.bz file is.
3. Open this new directory and see how the files are organised
4. If there are several sub-directories such as /opt or /usr, then just copy each set of files in each directory to the same directory or subdirectory in Puppy. Be careful not to over-write and existing files which would be for other existing applications. Go to 6.
5. If you've just a list of files in the extacted directory with no subdirectories, then this package you've downloaded requires 'compilation' or similar 'magic' to create a user-friendly installation package. Delete it all and look for a recent .pet or .sfs in a 64-bit Puppy repository. End of message.
6. Look in /usr/bin or /usr/local/bin for a file 'seamonkey' and click this - it should start 'Seamonkey'.
7. If you did not delete your old Seamonkey profile (in /root/.mozilla/seamonkey/ ), the newer Seamonkey should find and use this.

Did you check out in your old Seamonkey, Edit>Preferences>Advanced>Software installation (screenshot)? There is an option (radio button) to do Seamonkey updates either manually or automatically. This may work if you still have 2.46?

As others have said, I just update over an old Seamonkey with a new .pet or .sfs rather than trust the 'generic' updater - but it may work nonetheless.
