I'm running 18.06 from USB and HD/Frugal.
When trying to create a new 18.06 flash drive using GBootflash usb installer I go through all the normal steps until I get to the actual install. It then fails saying that it can't mount the usb stick.
I tried to use Universal installer. It reports that the usb stick is not formatted so I go to gparted and it fails to format (fat32) the stick with no further info....
Then...
I go to my install of Precise on another partition of the same machine and everything works !!!!
I've tried using about 5 or 6 different usb sticks and they all fail in upupbb but all work on precise.
I don't understand what gives.
Thanks

upupbb usb stick problems
Try deleting the existing stick partition with the working system, then reboot into upupbb abd see what gparted says when you try to create a partition in it. It will at least give you an idea if the stick is dying or if it's just been formatted on the wrong system (32bit<>64bit or version), I know it's not suppose to matter but it ocasionally does.
