A different machine id and mac address would be more security and a better option than having puppy boot with the same machine name each and every boot?

It's good to have this option but for anyone who has their router setup to assign an IP address based on the mac address, it will break things. It might be easier for people if this wasn't the default option.

The FirstRun program already lets you choose a hostname, maybe it could detect if macchanger is installed, and offer the chance to change mac address if so..

I noticed there were some merge requests that I think were rejected but I've made the mistake before of thinking changes were rejected that found their way into woof-CE. I think that mac spoofing is a good feature to have, "Especially if done in the way that is suggested by sc0ttman" (See post) but I understand why such a change might be rejected since one could argue that people outside your network will not likely see your mac address. I've noted some exceptions to this in another post. One exception that I didn't mention is that if your ISP sells this data to a third party [1]. Remember that most people use the wifi equipment supplied to them by their ISP. I don't know what information an ISP is legally allowed to sell to third parties. Granted we know that privacy laws are frequently broken.

Anyway, if this is something that you think should be in woof-CE and it hasn't been merged then maybe open up a discussion about it to see if the woof-CE team wants it. The issue might of been something as simple as the merge requests should have been combined into a single merge request. See:

I don't know. Often merge request on woof-CE are closed without explanation and the people following activity on woof-CE are left to wonder why. Perhaps if the merge requests were combined then it would be easier to commit on why a given merge request was closed. Perhaps it was merged and I didn't see where it was merged.

Anyway, there has been some discussion about privacy/security focused versions of puppy on github. For instance:

Maybe get **gjuhasz ** to make a GuardDog, and release in line with Community Edition, every 2 years or so..
