2.11 - gxine doesn't play dvds (cause found: screen res.)

#1 Post by pakt »

I'm getting an error when I try to play a DVD with gxine. I tested with two DVD discs which worked in earlier Puppy versions.

When I start gxine from a terminal and choose 'dvd', I get:

Code: Select all

<--snip-->
libdvdread: Get key for /VIDEO_TS/VTS_04_1.VOB at 0x000cd63c
libdvdread: Elapsed time 0
libdvdread: Found 4 VTS's
libdvdread: Elapsed time 0
The program 'gxine' received an X Window System error.
This probably reflects a bug in the program.
The error was 'BadAlloc'.
  (Details: serial 425 error_code 11 request_code 140 minor_code 19)
  (Note to programmers: normally, X errors are reported asynchronously;
   that is, you will receive the error a while after causing it.
   To debug your program, run it with the --sync command line
   option to change this behavior. You can then get a meaningful
   backtrace from your debugger if you break on the gdk_x_error() function.)
sh-3.00#
I'm running standard 'puppy-2.11-seamonkey' as a frugal hd install and the standard i810 video driver.

No, I don't think so. I always check the md5sum after downloading.

I'll do another test just running from CD to make sure my pup_save.3fs isn't the cause.

Ok, I have just tried playing a DVD with 2.11 running as live-CD and with 2.11-xorg as live-CD and I get the same error as before with both Puppy versions.

Just to be clear - I'm using the xorg i810 driver @ 1280x1024. This has worked with gxine in previous versions of Puppy.

Well I wasn't completely correct when I said that gxine worked for me in previous Puppy versions.

I have now tested gxine with 2.11beta, 2.10 and 2.02, all running in ram.

2.02 was the last version where I could get gxine to work.

I noticed that gxine in 2.10 through 2.11 started with a windowed message "Upgrading your key bindings". That window did *not* close after starting gxine.

There was no such message from gxine in 2.02.

Same issue with NVIDIA

The size of the 1280x1024 caused the problem for me, I reduced the screen size to 1024x768 and did not have a problem, sounds like a X bug.

Thanks Ted Dog, that was the problem. I switched from 1280x1024 to 1024x768 - then viewing a DVD with gxine worked fine.

Like you said, must be an Xorg 7.0.0 bug. Probably the i810 driver.

Ok, I have tested gxine again at 1280x1024 using Puppy 2.12beta and the Xorg i810 driver, but with Xorg 7.1.0 installed this time.

The bug is still there - I get the same error as in my previous message. :(
