Hmm... Just to take a guess I'd say that you didn't have the font installed for the language being viewed. I'm getting my cue from how SeaMonkey's titlebar is behaving as that's exactly what it'll show, boxes, when "X Font" isn't installed. So you'd have to find the font, probably on the net.

Next I'd install the font in Puppy to: "/usr/X11R7/lib/X11/fonts/misc/" and next I'd go to "/usr/X11R7/bin/" and click a few times on "fc-cache" as this installs the font. (Sometimes it doesn't work so I copy the "fc-cache" file right into the "/misc" and "/type1" directories and click it there which DOES work.)

I'm sure there's an easier way which someone knows here but I usually end up doing things the hard way. This is a hold-over of mine from my ZenWalk days. ;)

Hope this helps?

Amicalement,

This cannot be a default Puppy setup. What are your settings, such as keyboard layout and locale?
Did it work with earlier Puppies?
Maybe examine /tmp/xerrs.log to see if any error messages when SeaMonkey starts.

Click on it... an interesting way to do it... you should run "fc-cache -f" in a terminal. Make sure the directory you put the fonts in is in one of the font paths (you can find them and add new ones with Gxset, in the setup menu)

about fonts

#5 Post by bodigi »

Hi thanks for replay. First to clarify - this is Puppy 2.12Beta2, I just download and reboot the iso, I did not make any changes.Because the fonts were too big for me i reduced and started to open the app.During this i saw the fonts changes.I tried to solve it installing fonts - no results. I used the metod described in the forum.Later i was intrest from XFCE of Dougle and installed it, the problem with seamonkey's fonts disappiared remained only of TKDVD.

bodigi, when you first booted Puppy, you would have got a keyboard layout dialog window. What country did you choose?
