Nothing is cuter than a little puppy, and nothing would turn the PC world upside down like a WINE (Windows 32bit API enabled) Puppy.
If it hasn't already been done:
It would be great to have a 4GB USB Flash Drive with a 'Whiny Puppy' OS booting - optimized to run the latest WINE packages.
WINE ( http://winehq.org/site/about ) can run some Windows programs.
What would be cool is a Whiny Puppy running iTunes with 2 GB of Flash left open for music files - a 'Shuffling Puppy' you could use to walk up to any PC, boot it, listen to your Apple DRM iTunes, Browse Web, Use Excel, Internet Explorer, etc and then save and exit the PC when you want to.
Not only would this be a popular download and use of Puppy,
it would raise awareness of Puppy with Windows users (a lot of people who DON'T WANT VISTA but MUST use Windows programs because their company requires it, their clients are locked into Windoze, or their school only supports windows apps (IE)).
Developed with collaboration from the WINE group, such a custom optimized OS package would promote both WINE and Puppy Linux.
Also, the Pun WINEy Puppy was too good to resist,
and Windows Users often utter sounds of pain, fear, supplication, or complaint, and complain or protest in a childish fashion.
If WINEy Puppy Linux also supported Windows Printer Drivers, that would be great too - some printers are not supported fully in Linux, because the manufactures are Lazy (Canon, I'm Talkin' to you - Make CUPS drivers for your printers!)

Re: WINEy Puppy
Wine is already available for Puppy as a dotpup, and should soon be available as a dotpet for PETget.Reggie wrote:Nothing is cuter than a little puppy, and nothing would turn the PC world upside down like a WINE (Windows 32bit API enabled) Puppy.
You can download Wine using the Puppy Software Installer (PSI) repos. Latest version is 9.28 (I believe) although I think I saw an announcement for 9.29.
Personally I prefer 9.17 for stability, but that's just me.
I'm of the opinion that Wine should be a standard inclusion in the next Puppy CE (Community Edition), just to make more legacy programs accessible for those wanting to switch OS.
Hope that helps.
printing
Even if Puppy 1 up to version 2.11 (?) has the gimp-print service, you can use the samba interface (in /etc/pdq) tp print to Windows machines over the network. Try this advice:

Puppy user since Oct 2004. Want FreeOffice? Get the sfs (English only).
Re: printing
That's true, raffy, but I think Wine is restricted to printing through CUPS. I could be wrong, but I'm reasonably sure that's the case.raffy wrote:Even if Puppy 1 up to version 2.11 (?) has the gimp-print service, you can use the samba interface (in /etc/pdq) tp print to Windows machines over the network.
