HOWTO install SMP Kernel in Puppy Linux 2.12-14
Post problems here I know there will be problems as when I use this method on my system sound does not work. I did a make modules_install on my main system and it works fine the problem is getting it to work with the zdrv_213.sfs.
Grab the files
Puppy-Kernel-SMP - The kernel image
zdrv_213.sfs - Kernel modules
modules.tar.gz - Some more kernel modules
Files are at
http://puppyfiles.org/puppyfiles/Kernel ... d-and-SMP/
and if Mark has not mirrored some yet they are at ftp.servage.net
usr 123upload
pass puppylinux
1. Install new copy of Puppy to hardrive normal or option 2 way as of right not coexist or option 1 style will not work. This should work with any version that has zdrv_2**.sfs file I think so at least 2.12 - 2.14 should be ok.
2. Still booted on the Live CD. Replace /YOUR_install_dir/zdrv_213.sfs with the one I made
3. Replace /boot/vmliuz with Puppy-Kernel-SMP and rename it to vmliuz so you don't have to mess with grub.
4. replace /lib/modules/2.6.18.1 with the same dir in the file modules.tar.gz
5. Reboot and select your new install.
6. Report findings on this thread.
Another note..... The kernels I uploaded have been patched for Suspend 2 Disk as well. This is a work in progress. I thing basically the hibernate script will have to be rewritten for Puppy because of ti's Puppyness. I have hacked my file and it is working but does not recover 1 out of 10 or 20 times for no reason??
