Puppy Linux - the flying penguin

#1 Post by drongo »

Yeah, I know it's a bit rubbish, but I thought it might make a good strapline/marketing phrase. It describes the product and also conjures up a memorable image (leastways it does for me).

Or how about:-

Puppy Linux - a penguin which flies

Puppy Linux - you'll believe a penguin can fly (too Hollywood?)

Puppy Linux - flies like a penguin (too ambiguous?)

I just had the option of posting the above as a sticky, and I shouldn't be able to, obviously.

This has happened to me before.

Puppy ... makes being in the doghouse a GOOD thing! :D

@drongo: Okay, I notified John. Maybe he's been updating stuff again or something :?

Puppy: Man and computer's best friend.
Puppy: Your hyperactive steel-belted OS.
Puppy: His bark is worse than his byte.
Puppy: Lift your leg at Redmond.
Puppy: Byte me.
Puppy: Nibbles and bits.
Puppy: Friendlier than glass.
Puppy: Take a byte out of crime.
Puppy: The OS Bill warned you about.
Puppy: Drool on 'Doze.

Thanks for telling us about it but not doing it. (Somebody else wasn't as considerate.) It would be better to send a PM to John Murga when it happens, as we administrators can't read every post. I just happened to catch this one. :)

I don't know why these odd things happen.

How about
Puppy Linux, the operating system Bill uses while waiting for Vista to load..................
or Puppy Linux, an operating system truly unleashed.

My favorite is headfound's "puppy linux - mans best friend " it has real marketing potential
What about getting a few dozen ideas and then doing a poll?
I've been sending some emails to group noticeboards for charities suggesting Puppy as a cheap alternative. Headfound's your suggestion would make a great subject line if you don't mind me using using it? Thanks

this reminded me of norsweil's help in december:
norswiel suggested:
"puppylinux: a computer's best friend" ... this would have been up sooner, but i had some trouble uploading...
despite my involvement in the "how linux can be [better for women]" topics, i don't go so far as to nitpick about the word "man" i mean, it's short from "mankind" which is a term that includes women. but "your computer's best friend" for instance, certainly sounds a lot better than "a person's best friend" (lol) but if "man" is used, "puppylinux: man's best friend" is way, way better than "a man's best friend" ;) i like "computer" better still.

well it seems to be a bit of a tie between:

1. puppy linux: some kind of reference to dogs

and

2. puppy linux: let's show we're unique by ripping off microsoft's crappiest ad campaign ever.

i've made a LOT of jokes about "the wow starts now," but none were intended to promote puppy, they were only for fun. i have to continue to agree with lobster's original sentiment: surely you guys can do better. he didn't mean any offense by it and neither do i.

on the subject of fun, here's one for mac lovers (not me...)

apple: "the wow started ten years ago, we've been waiting for you guys to show up! nice trash bin icon..."

"Puppy Linux ... the Bow Wow starts now!" is not about ripping off Microsoft's "crappiest ad campaign ever". It is about CONTRAST
  • - between multi-billion dollar investment aimed at keeping the turnover going, and zero dollar investment in human ingenuity, intelligence and determination to produce something worthwhile

    - between concern for the end user's dollar and concern for the end user themselves

    - between a Wow factor based on fluff and mirrors and a Bow Wow factor based on performance, productivity and pride
I'm not advocating we use that slogan outside of this forum, but it is important to understand what it says about Puppy in contrast to Vista.

i was playing around for a few minutes and came up with this.... someone might be able to improve on it some.....

.....Premium
..linUx
comPuter
....oPerating
....sYstem

you could use Performance instead. and use bold or color for the letters that spell out puppy...... sorry for the periods, i cudnt think of how to space it any other way to make it come out when posted....
or Puppy linUx comPuter oPerating sYstem.......
Penguin, the OTHER white meat.
