How to connect my PCMCIA card

#1 Post by kneda »

Puppy detects the wifi network but it doesn't connect. (I also install the driver of the pcmcia, I didn't need to do this but I was wondering if was that)

I have a router wifi with a WEP key, I try to conect it but I can't!

Is my first time using puppy 2.16, I read the manual but it doesn't say more!

Please help! :( :(

There is a Wiki page for this but considering the wiki is down here's some guidance...
Assume that your wireless card is detected.
Mine is a DLink DWL-G650 I needed to "Load driver" ath_pci and confirm that Puppy sees the device. Now I see an ath0 button.

Click on the ath0 button or whatever your interface is named.
Click "Wireless"
Click "WEP"
Add the name of your wireless network in the Profile Name field
Add the name of your wireless network in the ESSID field
Add the WEP key for your wireless network in the Key field
Click "Save" button
Click "Use This Profile"
Puppy will try to connect. If it connects you will see a response "Puppy was able to find an alive network"
Click "Auto DHCP" and wait patiently.
Puppy will set your IP address. If it connects you will see a response "NETWORK CONFIGURATION OF ath0 SUCCESSFUL"

Give it a try. If it works great. If not post the messages you see and I'm sure someone can give you guidance.

Mine is a PCMCIA Compaq my puppy says that I have a ETH0, I don't know if is the LAND port or the Wifi. But if I click in ETH0, I can:

Click "Wireless"
Click "WEP"
Add the name of your wireless network in the Profile Name field
Add the name of your wireless network in the ESSID field
Add the WEP key for your wireless network in the Key field
Click "Save" button
Click "Use This Profile"

Puppy will try to connect. But it ALWAYS response "UNSUCCESSFULL"

I also try to save the driver from windows, and load it in puppy linux, but I always have ETH0, no other interface appears.

Hi kneda,
Please have a look at the wiki:
http://puppylinux.org/wikka/Wifi
Especialy when it says to momentarily disable the WEP encryption.

Y no hace falta empezar dos "threads" para que te contestan mas rapidamente. Hay personas que lo sienten como mal educado.

Lo de los 2 post es porque los que leen el foro en ingles no creo que se metan en el foro de habla hispana.

It works!!! the only thing was to change the name! so stupid! If you have the same problem just DO THIS:

Add the name of your wireless network in the Profile Name field: for example: "WIFI"
Add the name of your wireless network in the ESSID field: this must be the name of you Wireless Name Network
Add the WEP key for your wireless network in the Key field: the KEY you must know

Just that! jejeje
