type in a consolewindow:

modprobe modulename

To see what is loaded:
lsmod

I think the one you listed are for Kernel 2.4, but since Puppy 2 the kernel 2.6 is used.
Here the usb-modules are called different.

Some I have loaded here:
ehci_hcd,usblp,usbhid,usb_storage,uhci_hcd

The webcamwizard gets as far as /dev/video is loaded but has unusual major number.. this may cause problems.
Webcam info:
Vendor ID = 046D
Product ID = 08f5
Manufacturer = [blank]
It downloads puppy2-quickcam_messenger-1.3.tar.gz
but gets an error on installation and module fails to load

which puppyversion are you using? maybe we can compile the module for you.

Checked out that thread, tried the .pet etc. Running camwizard, I still can't get beyond the

"USB host driver appears not to be loaded.' If your computer is typical PC with modularized UHCI or OHCI, you probably should issue the following commands:
modprobe uhci
modprobe usb-uhci
modprobe usb-ohci
as root and retry.

I tried to install those using qc-usb-0.6.5.tar.gz but was not successful.

qc-usb-0.6.5.tar.gz bombs out with a ton of errors on make all.

have you also got the pup3.0 kernel sources? if not, it's available on ibiblio as another 60M+ .sfs download.

I just rebooted into pup3.0, intending to compile this, but I forgot I don't have the kernel sources!

That is getting beyond my capability to deal with!

I compiled the quickcam driver from the link pasted above, and tried running xawtv and mplayer, but am not succeeding. I have the Quickcam messenger (0x046D, 0x08F0)

With xawtv, I get a black screen. One thing I noticed is that it tried to use a higher resolution ( 1024 X 768) . Heres the command I ran:

# xawtv -device /dev/video0

Then I tried with mplayer, and keep getting a green screen, and see the error continuously:

I googled and got a match on the above error which said switch to xine or something like that. Can anyone help?

Can anyone help?

This one has a product id 092e, and needed the gspca driver. So I installed that, and xawtv still didnt work. I then installed Camstream, and then the webcam works.

I would still like to make this all work with a IM application like yahoo or something.

I found this link:

about the no space on device error message. I do have another USB device ( a USB based KVM switch). I will try disconnecting that and retrying.

So removing my USB KVM switch and only having the USB webcam does fix the issue. I am able to see my webcam through xawtv.

I still need to get this working with a instant messaging client like gyachi

I'm probably in the same boat! I have webcam that xawtv can't see, but which works intermittently with mercury(java), amsn(tcl), etc. It's definitely a dark art!
