http://qfaxreader.sourceforge.net/

I'm possting this in response to a query, from Dingo, here, requesting such a program.

To start, just enter qfaxreader in a console. Of course, being QT-based, you'll need to install QT libraries.

Dingo,

no problems...but does it do the job? Also, did you try wjaguar's perl gqview script, & the mozilla plugin, in the other thread? We'll be wanting a 50 page report with your recommendations & findings.

cheers,
muggins

yeah, it works fast and fine on my puppy 3.01, but I have found a little bug:

when you want scrolling pages, clicking on (page down/page up) crashes application. no crash if you scroll with keyboard

Thank you muggins for qfaxreader-0.3.1-i486.pet

The pet file presented above by muggins installed perfectly in Dingo. It works perfectly for multipage tiff and jfx files. Thankyou.

I have set up a free fax service at http://www.j2.com/jconnect/twa/page/homePageFree to receive faxes for free in my email as attachments.

The fax is delivered via an email attachment with the extension jfx. It behaves just like the common multipage tiff file related to fax documents. Indeed when the jfx file is dragged onto the qfaxreader program icon it opens beautifully where all pages are available for viewing.

If you prefer to use the console command method just rename the jfx file to tif and then use the console method.

For convenience I did the following to open jfx and tiff files as received with a single click:

1. Right-click on a tiff or jfx file and then click on Set Run Action.

2. Change the command from defaultpaint to qfaxreader.

3. In the future just click on the tif or jfx file to view.

I can now send and receive faxes for free in Puppy Dingo.

To send a fax for free in Dingo I use http://www.faxzero.com and http://www.gotfreefax.com. These are website driven services that work in the browser and hence Puppy.

I hope this helps those seeking fax capability in Puppy.

What you circled is for next/previous fax, not page scroll (which are the green arrows around the page number. I didn't find any bug using 4.0.

Now nine months later I have advanced from Puppy 4.0 to 4.1.2 running fresh via live CD and qfaxreader no longer works.

Trying to launch qfaxreader in terminal I get the following:

Code: Select all

# qfaxreader
qfaxreader: error while loading shared libraries: libqt-mt.so.3: cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory
Help please.

@jackieflorida,

have you installed qt-3.3.8.pet?

If not, then, after install, you would need to reboot, and it should, hopefully, work then.

Qfaxreader in PuppyLinux 5.2

In 5.2 when running Qfaxreader in Terminal the process stops in error condition saying that libpng.so.3 cannot be found.

Note that libpng12.so is the new replacement for libpng.so.3 and the Qfaxreader version above requires the older link.

I got it to work by creating a link for libpng12.so but renaming it libpng.so.3 in user/lib.
