How to print to Deskjet D1470 on Windows XP network?

#1 Post by iansl2000 »

I hope someone can help with this problem.

I am trying to print from puppy 301 to a HP Deskjet D1470 connected to a pc called 'MAIN' running windows XP home.

I have set up CUPS 1.1.23 and when I send a test print the job appears in the XP printer job window, the printer makes the usual preliminary clicking noises but does not print.

The job stalls showing printing 64kb out of a total of 3.5mb.

I get no error messages in CUPS or the cups error log.

I have LinNeighborhood running and can access windows shares succesfully.

I used the ppd file from http://www.linuxprinting.org/

I can also boot into puppy on the 'MAIN'PC and have set up the printer as a usb printer with no trouble at all.

I have conneted the printer to the usb port of the remote PC and can set this up succesfully.

The only difference I can see in setting the printer up on the remote pc and in puppy on 'MAIN' is

1) In the CUPS.pup wizard I select Network and not USB

2) In the CUPS webpage setup I selected 'Windows printing via Samba' not USB port

3) In the CUPS webpage setup I provided a URI as follows smb://MSHOME/192.168.1.76/Printer2

I did find the following comment on the linuxprinting.org

"This printer entry is not yet included in the Foomatic packages"

Would this affect wireless printing and not usb printing?

Thanks in advance for any help given.
