Can't boot from CD anymore

#1 Post by gingerman »

For some reason, suddenly I can't boot from my cd.
I've been having no trouble for quite some time, and have grown to like the puppy platform.
Suddenly, it ain't workin' no more.
No changes to my settings
I've re-downloaded a couple of times, and reburned a couple of cds, and no luck. I just can't get it to boot.

It gets to the point where it says:
"Loading Kernel Modules" with a blinking cursor, and just stops there
The disk drive stops turning, and it does nothing, no matter how long I wait, or what buttons I push.

I won't go into the fact that I can't get universal installer to install it on a usb stick, because I can't get that far at this point.

Other programs (like Damn Small Linux) will boot from my cd with the settings I have, but not Puppy.

Maybe there is some problem with your pupsave file on the hard drive. Boot off the Live CD and at the short initial pause, type:

puppy pfix=ram

Can't Boot From CD

Thanks, I'll try that.

There is a change in one of the lines that comes up when booting. It's in pink, so I noticed it, but don't know what to do with it, or how to change it. The line reads: [oops, I wrote it down, but I can't find it]
Anyway, it's about saving something to the "steve" ram directory, which I don't know the location of or how it came to be.

I'll run the disk, and find the quote, if it's needed.

Thanks again,
Steve
