I am by no means an expert on this, but I had a similar problem with Linux sound (not just puppy). I had to do the following for a different card:

1) Open Rxvt Terminal
2) type each of the following commands at the # until one works. Just try your sound after each one:

modprobe snd-als4000
modprobe snd-pcm-oss
modprobe snd-mixer-oss
modprobe snd-seq-oss
modprobe snd-card-als4000

Remember, this is just an attempt to help and I am by no means as knowledgable as some of the other guys here. Stop by the IRC by clicking on the "Chat" button and someone will probably be there that can provide "knowledgeable" help. This just worked for me.

Hopefully one of those works for you! Good Luck!

Look in /lib/modules/2.6/sound/oss/ to see all the available modules.

Well, there is probably an Alsa module that will work, but support for Alsa is still not there... or rather, the kernel supports it, the modules exist, but it isn't yet in Puppy. Probably not for 1.0.3 either, maybe 1.04!

Well, you could figure out how to get Alsa working in Puppy.
For Pup v1.0.3 I'm planning on using kernel 2.6.12 and will stay with that for sometime. So, will also upload the full set of modules.
Puppy only has a subset of the full set, to save space.
Currently none of the Alsa modules are in there.

You would have to study up on what is needed to get Alsa going running the 2.6 kernel -- some howto docs on the web might be only for 2.4 kernel.

So, I've thrown down the gauntlet

I recently upgraded my comp to XP but it didn't recognize the audio card. I just wanted to say thanks for posting what the audio card was because without it, I would still be looking for it.
Thanks,
