How do I get sound for email notification?

#1 Post by oblivious »

My email is set to play a notification sound, but it doesn't. Is there a way of enabling this? Thanks.

Edit > Preferences > General

Click "play sound"

Select sound file

Click "play" to test

If you can hear the sound file, click close.

If you cannot hear the sound file, check your alsamixer settings.

Sorry, where are the sound files hiding in Puppy? (I get sound ok, generally. I had Thunderbird set to default system sound, I can see where I can browse for a specific file, where would that be? In the Thunderbird directory, or somewhere else? Thanks.

Location sometimes depends on the version of Puppy you're using and what apps you've added. On my highly bastardized Puppy v2.12, there are sound files in these locations:

/usr/share/audio

/usr/share/sounds

/usr/share/sounds/gaim

/root/audio

/root/wav

Your mileage may vary. Doing a file find for *.wav will reveal more.

Ok, I found a file, but no sound plays when selected in Thunderbird... Will fiddling with the Alsamixer make it play because as I said, sound plays generally, just not for the email notification?
