Ubuntu is planning (https://blueprints.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+spec/compcache) to integrate this (http://code.google.com/p/compcache/) google summer of code project in their next release, but it seems even better suited to Puppy!
The descriptions I linked to are better than I can manage, but basically, it creates a compressed swap space within memory, which is much faster than using swap space on the hard disk. The performance gains on low memory systems and live cds are amazing.
Compcache makes more memory through *magic* compression!

i remember a program I had for win 95 (magnaram if I remember correctly), it was awesome at the time (it was really useful in the days of 8-16 mb ram)...
i fear implimenting it in puppy wouldn't be that great though...
you would pay for increased memory and swap speed for decreased CPU speed.. most machines w/ low ram also have low CPU which w/ seamonkey open playing a flash video will pretty much tax it out...
