I just downloaded and burnt "Linux From Scratch" live-CD from http://www.linuxfromscratch.org/
Sorry it's a bit off-topic on these Puppy forums - I just wondered if anybody here has experience with it and could share his findings, e.g. how it compares to Puppy, and how easy or difficult it is to effectively build this Linux from scratch.
What's Linux from Scratch like?

I need to make a Linux Distribution myself to be submitted as minor project in the college...and even I was thinking about the same question.
It seems that LFS is better in terms of documentation, and works with core principles (and less of spoon-feeding), which I think is a good thing.
Other than that, I don't know anything, except that its a quite popular project too...so that might be a plus point. Surely, comments and reviews appreciated.

Oui,
Linux From Scratch has a following and some developers who tend to stick around. I for one have dabbled in it when trying to understand how some part of Linux works. To my own discredit I have not used it to make a full system. That certainly would have advanced me considerably.

Advantages of LFS
In class one of the most valuable lessons was building an installation from several different library versions. We had to manually compare and match dependencies to make things work. But then that system was nice! Red Hat v7, nice, but to this day I dislike rpm's.
The difference to knowing how to do it, vs. not having to do it because you trust the maintainers and their processes makes a system like Puppy more dear. Personally, I'll stick with pets and debs, but if it does break I have some experience on where to look and how to troubleshoot.
