I went through the ALSA conf script. With all Volume settings at 100% I can just barely here the audio from an MP3.
Any suggestions?

If you run the alsamixer or the sGmixer are all the audio up at 100%?
Time savers:
Find packages in a snap and install using Puppy Package Manager (Menu).

sGmixer is in the menu as well, like the alsamixer.
The volume icon in the tray should permit to go to 100%

I've been away chasing ghosts in Vista related to adware/virus checking.
When I updated puppy to 4.1 the volume issue improved but not as loud as in Vista. Prior to upgrade I installed the sven keyboard dotpup. This has removed the sGmixed and its icon on the system tray. Sven does see the hardware volume control on the front of the laptop but each time I increase the volume it moves to 2 and then resets to 0.
How do I remove sven?
Are there any other packages for controlling hardware volume controls?
Also, when I updated puppy I experienced some file corruption issues within windows. I had to go through system repair in windows to get it back. Is it common to have puppy updates to cause problems in windows since both write to the NTFS partition?
If I need to break these problems into separate post, I will.

I don't know sven, so can't tell really, but it may not harm for a test to remove it.
If you start sgmixer in a console (rxvt) do you get error messages?

If you are having problems adjusting audio then probably the best mixer to use is the console based one that comes with alsa, alsamixer.
The volume icon in the tray does not work for a few people. I was the one who modified the original absvolume to swallow in the tray. Unfortunately I do not have a strong understanding of the interface with the soundcard so I am not sure how to fix the problem.
