Pidgin 2.5.3 Puppy 4.0+ 2.5.4 +SSL + MSN

#1 Post by ttuuxxx »

Hi guys this is a no frills version of pidgin, basically its the same as the default one in the puppy repo but updated. I also have a additional locales pet :) Please don't complain if extra or other features don't work because this version is just made to work without any additional libs. Just the basic pidgin.

Hello,

Excellent program pidgin by the way!

I have pidign 2.5.1 running on Puppy 4.1.1 here but msn stopped working now strangely.

Something about the addressbook - Tuuxx can you not make a new .pet of Pidgin 2.5.3 + SSL support ?

Thanks alot,

Best regards,
Johan

I would divisionmd but I'm too involved it 4.12 to focus on such a task. After I'm finished with 2.12 browser problems then I could find the time, sorry for now, But the pidgin you want does take a lot of time to build. Until then use the older version which works, if you want :)

Hello Ttuuxxx,

Heard a rumour that msn dont work right now is because of some server problem at Microsoft.

So why pidgin does not work with msn right now is because of that - not that i have an older version.

But anyway using a later version is almost always nicer.
:D
Best regards,
Johan

I've pidgin 2.4.1 version and it always worked great with msn. Do you know if there are any difference between 2.4.1 and 2.5.3? I use it only for msn.

ttuuxxx
what kind of files are those? Are they included in Pidgin?

ps: pidgin for me is the best client for msn and I hope in the next puppy version they will include it again because Ayttm works very bad with msn.
I don't know in newer puppy linux versions Pidgin isn't included anymore.

The dev files are basically developer files left over from compiling and you don't need them unless your going to recompile pidgin. The next puppy will have Xchat,, without MSN, the reason is beacuuse Xchat is a 500kb pet and pidgin with MSN is 3800kb pet, And well puppy needs the extra space, But I did ask them to add pidgin with msn to the repo.
So It could installed via the puppy package manager.

I tried it on my spare pc with nothing on it, other than a live puppy version and it worked. Is this the one you used http://www.puppylinux.asia/tpp/ttuuxxx/ ... -2.5.4.pet
And you setup you account? whats does it say when you try to log into msn? Also there are preferences for msn for proxy etc, I don't need to set those on my pc but maybe you might have to?

did you have a previous version of Pidgin installed?
If so you need to remove it, all those errors, don't show up on my pc, when I run pidgin from the command line and log into msn, I get no errors at all.
