How to get photo previews (thumbnails) in Puppy 4.x - SOLVED

#1 Post by silverojo »

I'm using Puppy v.2.0, and I like how the Rox-filer gives picture previews like this:

I've tried version 4.1 (I believe that's it--I don't have the CD on hand right now), and I love it except that Rox-filer doesn't offer such previews. It just has one image icon that's used for all pictures.

Being that I deal with hundreds of pictures, this just won't work for me.

Does anybody know how I can enable the regular picture previews? As a last resort, I've tried changing the icon sizes, but that doesn't work. Any help would be appreciated! :)

No Lobster, the eye icon is to make it show hidden files. What the OP wants is to see thunmbnails.

Right click on a filer window or on the desktop and choose 'Options'. Then, when the options dialog comes up, click on 'Display' and check the box beside the entry:'Show image thumbnails'. There is a lso an option to save, or not the thumbnails between sessions. If you turn thumnial saving off, then the thumbnails are not saved and must be re-generated each time you open a directory with images. If you do save them, they will saved in a cache which can get very large if you browse lots of dirs with images in them.

@ amigo

The eye icon is used to show hidden files with a left click.
A right click on the eye shows images as previews as Lobster stated.

Takes some getting used to but soon becomes second nature.

All the best

I've found the difference between the two methods you guys described:

Right-clicking on the eye gives a temporary view of the thumbnails, while right-clicking and changing the preference in the Options menu is a permanent setting change.

Thanks for your input, I appreciate it!
