How do I build my own version of Puppy?

basically I'm looking for a bootable iso image of puppy that only installs the system files. i.e. no 3rd party applications.

And I from that point I'd like to build it up to my preferences.. how does this work exactly?

get barebones for single cpu
OR
get gpup for SMP (dual core etc...)

use petget to install your packages (or download your own pets)
remaster using the remaster wizard

there are a lot of packages pre-installed that i do not want that are not listed in the package manager. how do i remove these? (sea monkey etc)

you need "petbegone" for puppy before 4.2 - for 4.2 use remax and choose "remaster lighter"

When I go to Remax under the setup menu and then hit 'Remaster slimmer' and then 'remaster slimmer' again, it says:

no files matched glob pattern "*.files"
no files matched glob pattern "*.files"
while executing
"glob -directory /root/.packages *.files"
(procedure "remaslim" line 5)
invoked from within
"remaslim"

any advice?

is there a more a straight forward method of getting puppy's core, right down to the bone(?)

I want to be able to change the window manager and all of the applications within it and then have it boot up automatically like puppy currently does. i.e boots from mbr, initializes services, drops the puppy file to ram, then boots in to the window manager of my choosing..

i've been trying the same thing. i've set up my puppy how i like it, installed it to a usb stick so i can then remaster it but no joy. just keeps asking for a live cd. do i have to burn it to cd? im on a netbook so its pretty impossible!

I was redoing the remaster script when PCM started with remax, I had already duplicated some of ttuuxxx's work so I completely gave up on finishing it ... here it is if it helps anyone ... just drag an empty folder to the script anywhere... I was pretty close to being finished but need to fix a "bug" that requires you to have the build folder in a separate partition if you select certain options.

just gunzip it and change the permissions to executable
(click on it to gunzip it to a bash script and then right click and select permissions)

i was going to get rid of seamonkey. i think its awful! sorry! who the hell uses seamonkey?!

anyways, i've found a nice pet of opera on here with flash 10 etc that works very well on my netbook. much faster and a nice interface than seamonkey.

I've used Remax a number of times to remove or add things on the new iso. I have removed Seamonkey, no problem, since I use Firepup and Opera.

A little warning though, if someone removes the wrong thing in "expert" mode it can create problems.I found out the hard way, by trial and error and non-working cd's.

Remax can remove basically anything from the live cd or add basically any pet also.I just have trouble deciding just what to remove.

TIP: if you have a frugal install you can check to see if your system works by simply replacing your old pupXXX.sfs with the new one (after backup of course)

I don't understand why there isn't an easily accessible bare-bones version of 4.2 DeepThought... Hasn't someone put together an iso for download on this site?
Basically I want to strip down puppy to the core and be able to add packages from the command line and build up my system in that manor...like in debian apg-get or pkg_add in freebsd.
If it could start from scratch in that manor then it would be a lot easier to start over if and when I mess up and install a faulty piece of software that is unstable or w/e and corrupts my system's stability.

One of the main reasons I keep coming back to puppy (i've been trying out distros for the past month, probably 25 so far...full installs to my hd and messed around with each) is because if I mess up some sort of configuration then all i have to do is reboot my computer from the cd and reinstall puppy in 5 minutes... when i did something horribly wrong in any other distro it would take anywhere from 20mins-2hours to reinstall. knoppix was another great distro that installed quickly...but the compwiz fusion add on got on my nerves and bogged my computer down.

debian ran open arena beautifully...It's an old game I know, but it still runs great compared to the old dos version of it. I haven't really found any other games for linux beside a few solitaire/card games that tickled my fancy. Has anybody here tried arch linux?
