quattro pro in puppy

#1 Post by r22d22 »

I am so new to puppy that at least three cray's contain what I don't know so if I offend protocol please correct.

I have tried to use gnumeric but find it too difficult. I have located copies of Word perfect 8 for Linux. Since I have used Wordperfect 8 for years I know it has a version of Quattro I can use. In searching Quattro Pro on Google frequent reference is made to Corel Office 2000 for Linux as a source for Quattro. Does anyone know if Wordperfect 8 for Linux will work in Puppy?

Thanks for your help. Earl

Greetings,
I'm not going to knock Quattro Pro since I used it for years. But have you tried OpenOffice Calc. This is pretty good software and I know for a fact that you can import Quattro wb6 files as well as just about everything else out there. I even use Openoffice on my XP partition.

technosaurus, that would be if he wanted to install Quattro Pro for Windows, He's asking about Quattro pro for linux.

The answer is. Usually those packages were created as bin's with statically linked libraries so there is a chance it will work.

Using Puppy it is very easy to try. Just do it following the instructions from Quattro Pro and let us know.

Oh, I didn't know that they made a Linux variant. Cool, if it is static it should work but be pretty large... might as well use wine.

quattro pro for Linux

Very grateful for all the suggestions. Problem is my overwhelming ignorance. tictac suggested open office but when I tried to download it got a message saying the disc hadn't enough room and try deleting files. I didn't know which disc (assumed hard drive) didn't know which files I could remove since all the files I have came with the Puppy live disc. Then I started trying to find a way to delete programs and couldn't. I was very conscious of RTFM but couldn't FTSM. :!:

I don't know what wine is so couldn't track that. Is there any hope?

The original task in all this was to install open office .calc. To do this I needed to make space somewhere by deleting files. Since I am using Firefox, I wanted to delete SeaMonkey. Thanks to you folks I found the manual and read it. If I understood it correctly I would use a program called Pet-be-gone which may not work in my Puppy 4.2. In any case, it may not delete SeaMonkey because it is embedded in a core program. What is my next option?

Thanks for the help Earl
