XBox Media Center Pupplet ?

#1 Post by hartiberlin »

Hi,
can anyone please make a working
xbmc.org MediaCenter Pupplet
with additional Firepub browser and
Kaffeine or Videolan ?

IMHO XBMC.org is just the best MediaCenter application
and I would like to see it integrated into a Pupplet.

Many thanks in advance.

Regards, Stefan.

Nobody from the Pro members yet succeeded ?

XBox Media Center is really the best Mediacenter
software out there, but I would like to have pupplet for
this with some additional programs added and all
working a bit better than the XBMC center Live CD version
itsself...

Many thanks in advance.

Regards, Stefan.

Have you used Boxee?
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Boxee

It is a derivative of XBMC but has more features because it is aimed at PC's and not Xboxes. It is still in the alpha stage but I have been using it almost every day and have not had many issues with it. I did have to remove pulse audio from my ubuntu install to get it to playback some videos properly. But pulse audio tends to suck anyway from what I have read so I am not too worried about that. I actually already asked Ttuxxx about making a .pet and he said he would try to work on it when he gets time. I am not a developer but I would guess that once a .pet was made for one of these apps much of the work would be done for the other?

an XMBC pupplet would be really, really awesome!

i have tested xbmc live - but it is very very unflexible and requires deeper linux knowledge...

the best thing would be:
- base distro:
-- current stable puppy release
OR
-- browserlinux 68 Mb puplet with firefox 3.5.3
- nvidia and ATI drivers included
- xbmc-pupplet

MAKE IT REAL!

plssss :)

pulse is getting dumped anyways in ubuntu 9.10. they relised it was just a bad thing to keep. it was just a unneeded alisa layer anyways. i dunno abought xbmc i always liked myth tv. and there is a puppy of that floating somewhere.

I think it is kind of an apples and oranges comparison. Myth tv doesn't integrate all of the web content like Boxee (oops you said xbmc, I just noticed that). Well, anyway what I was getting at was XBMC/Boxee don't do any recording like Myth TV. Hulu (or their content providers) recently made Boxee stop integrating the service, so I don't really use it like I used to. They still have some cool stuff built in though (Pandora, Last.fm, Youtube, BBC, Discovery channel, etc..). I know a few people that swear by Myth TV. I mostly watch stuff on Boxee or download stuff (all legal stuff) but if I watched anything on TV I would definitely try Myth first.

I have tried to put together a XBMC for Puppy 412. Seems to work ok but I have not tested all. You can see some screen shots here and also download the pets:

Thanks - hope anyone can use it. No hardware drivers are included - only dependencies that XBMC claimed to need and P412 could not supply.
I have tested further and I have not found anything not working yet.
