How to install Linksys WUSB600N driver?

#1 Post by loranbruce »

Hello,
I am a newbie who is running linux for the first time. I have a wireless n network running on a D-link Dir-655. Two windows computers are already running on the network. I took an old computer with no hard drive and am running puppy on a 4g thumb drive. when I try to use Ndiswrapper to install the driver for my WUSB600N adapter it says that rt2870 is an invalid driver. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Hi, loranbuce, welcome to the Kennels ... and Linux .. and freedom! Sorry to keep you waiting, but - congratulations! - using the Puppy supersearchengine:

http://wellminded.com/puppy/pupsearch.html

seems you've scored a first with a query on the wusb600n. I was going to ask which Puppy you are using, because some wireless adaptors in my experience have preferences in this respect, but wait! A little trawling indicates that you are far from alone with this one; our pals on the openSuse forum have a lengthy but interesting thread here:

http://forums.opensuse.org/network-inte ... 00n-6.html

- so, as a first shot, just try swapping the USB connector around. Please let us all know how you get on, your feedback helps so many others.

Hello Loranbruce,

I have one of those and got it working in Ubuntu 8.10 and now have Ubuntu 9.04 which will run it automatically with no configuring. In fact I'm posting over it now.

I haven't gotten it to work with Puppy yet but am also interested in doing so. I don't know if the same tutorial for 8.10 Ubuntu would work for Puppy or not but it might. Here is what I used in Ubuntu 8.10 http://ubuntuforums.org/archive/index.p ... 32275.html

I think I'll try it real quick and see if it works in puppy421

wget http://rapidshare.com/files/160951015/WUSB600N.tar

typed in the command line will download tar file to the directory that you are currently in.

tar -xvvf WUSB600N.tar in command will extract it in that same directory and then the tutorial pretty much covers the rest.

None of the Ubuntu tutorial worked in puppy. I guess Puppy is a little different. Have to keep looking I guess.
