I had a look, and I'm not expert by far on this, but it looks like the latest intel driver might and I mean might be needed and if so then you need one the latest Xorg versions compiled, I'm not sure what Xorg Barry is using in Jpup but when I tried to compile it in 2.14X this was the message
sh-3.00# Requested 'xorg-server >= 1.6' but version of xorg-server is 1.0.2
So I would check first and make sure he is using 1.6+
So series 4 would be out also.

ps this was the video driver

also this is the main page for it

Foxconn R10-S4

#3 Post by Mstar »

I have the R10-S4 version of this and it runs G-Pup just fine. Don't recall having to do anything special, but it's been a while since I set it up.

YMMV, but the R10 version of this box works OK.

Hmmm .....

I believe that :

1. CPU: Atom 330 will run just fine with puppy 412/421. Getting SMP kernel is an option that will give access to the other core.

2. VGA: onboard 945GC will probably work ok on 412/421. If it doesn't then head over here and get kernel module + xorg intel update. Those should work with current xorg in puppy 4.x.

3. Audio: ALC662 is intel HDA hardware and should work fine. If it doesn't then head over here to update alsa drivers.

4. LAN: RTL8100C works just fine. I had one of those running without issues.

Mstar,

The difference between the R10 and R20 is that the R20 has a reset button where the R10 does not from what I read.

I did read somewhere that multi-threading should be disabled from the BIOS.

Be truthfull, how is browsing or playing streaming video?

Er, what's "YMMV" and what version of (G-Pup) Puppy are you running?

Patriot,

"Getting SMP kernel is an option that will give access to the other core. "

If I don't get SMP it should still work but only use one core, correct?

Thanks

Hello Kenny M

#6 Post by Mstar »

My box has a re-set button.

Using Gpup 1.1

Browsing with Firefox is fine, don't do streaming video so I can't answer that one.

YMMV = Your Mileage May Vary

Also, running another dual-core Atom box with an Intel D945GCLF2 Mobo and one of the Puppies (don't recall which one) with SMP enabled. Works fine.

Mstar,

Thanks for the reply.

Well then I don't know the difference between the two models?

What's the difference between GPUP 1.1, 1.2 and Puppy like 4.2.1?

Thanks

Hi Kenny M

The Gpup discussion is here: http://www.murga-linux.com/puppy/viewtopic.php?t=36602

Better information that I can give you, I'm just a Linux dabbler.
