Hello

I've tried the 430 live CD and no problems with either ethernet or usb wireless rt73 connection

I next install to usb stick with universal installer and fine it boots up and the network connection wizard works - press wizard, eth0 thing appears press OK and fine I can browse OK

On exit offered chance to save settings which I do, to the usb stick.
But next time when I boot up with the stick, the browser does not work AND when I press on the connection wizard, the ethernet0 thing does not pop up nor does loading any of the modules succeed- i have broadcom ethernet btw.

So i am now stuck unable to connect to the internet.

Thanks if u can help

Hmm . . . not such a helpful forum maybe

Had another go, picks up the ethernet a treat and offered to save settings which I do. Or think I do (does it save them to ram maybe?)

On the way out, asked to save settings which i do to usb stick

Next boot not asked for country language etc but can no longer connect to internet

Surely someone with experience must have some inkling as to what needs to be done?

I do plenty of USB testing installs.

But I never save any settings.
But what I believe that you should do is:

Boot up Puppy cd....re-install to USB.
Take out cd.
Reboot.....do not save again to USB.

Boot USB again.....now set up everything,
Shutdown and reboot......NOW SAVE BACK to USB.

Now it should work next time????

Thanks but still no joy UNTIL:
I formatted usb stick in fat32 and made it bootable with sys linux, before copying puppy files from cd to usb stick

This time all writes were saved on the stick in puppy save file and things worked properly. I would guess that previoulsy, with the standard install, writes were going to ram drive and being lost

" I formatted usb stick in fat32 "

Fair enough. Anyway glad that you are up and going.
Could you edit your post as solved.

Cheers............Chris.

Sure - done

Sort of solved i would say - i kinda happended upon a recipe which works rather fully understand exactly what's happening. I'll reiterate the recipe for anyone who wants to use this solution

From windows, format usb stick as fat32

make it linux bootalbe using syslinux (from dos window go to win32 folder of syslinux installation) and

syslinux -ma x: (where x: usb stick drive letter)

add file called syslinux.cfg Mine contains the line:

default vmlinuz initrd=initrd.gz pmedia=usbhd nosmp

Copy files from puppy linux (430) CD to usb stick

Done!

Hi,
During live CD use Gparted to format USB FAT32 & flag to boot. During Universal Installer choose “mbr.bin from the syslinux package.
