Where's the sound?

#1 Post by howard »

I have Puppy 4.3 installed on my Thinkpad T51. While the Puppy Bark is fairly audible, I cannot get other sounds, especially those that arrive by way of the Internet, to play at a decent volume.
I tried running the Sound Card Wizard. At one point ALSA presents a list of "sound cards." I'm not sure which one to select.
Any guidance appreciated. Thanks.

Type alsamixer in console; see that master and pcm sliders are
turned up. Play with the other ones too.

Inspiron 700m, Pent.M 1.6Ghz, 1Gb ram.
Msi Wind U100, N270 1.6>2.0Ghz, 1.5Gb ram.
Eeepc 8g 701, 900Mhz, 1Gb ram.
Full installs

I "solved" a similar problem when my grey matter engaged gear and I realised that when Alsamixer opens from the menu in mimimised format the speaker slider is to the extreme right and is not immediately visible.
