Screen Saver Similiar to Xscreensaver in Ubuntu?

Is there a picture slideshow screen saver similiar to Xscreensaver as used in Ubuntu for Puppy 0.42 or Puppy 4.3.1?

If so, what is the packaged called? Where do I find it?
Do I have enough resources to run such a program?

I am running Puppy 0.42 (installed) on Compaq Presario 1200 with 182 mg RAM (70MB used according to 'Hard Info' data). Processor is Intel Celeron (Coppermine). Puppy 0.42 runs flawlessly.
On occasion I run Puppy 4.3.1 from Live CD on same machine. Puppy 4.3.1 also runs flawlessly.

Thank you for your time to answer.

PS I attempt to use this suggestion for an application and associated site but I am unable to log on to access it. Suggestions for how to log on this site?

Thank you, I was able to sign into http://puppylinux.asia/members/Puppyluv ... 7-i686.pet and download the screen saver package. The user name is 'puppy' and the password is 'linux'. I'll go see if I can apply the package now. Thanks again.

Xscreensaver download installed on Puppy system.
An error message appears saying:

"xscreensaver-demo is running as user "root" on host "puppypc". But the xscreensaver managing display ":0.0" is running as user "nobody" on host "puppypc".
Since they are differnet users, they won't be reading/writing the same ~/.xscreensaver file, so xscreensaver-demo isn't going to work right.
You should either re-run xscreensaver-demo as "nobody", or re-run xscreensaver as "root"."

Also, there is a screen message that says: "directory can't be found".

I must assume that some kind of 'terminal' command is given to solve this? I am new to using a 'terminal'.
Can someone kindly tell me 1) Am I correct in assuming that a terminal command is what I need to fix this? 2) What is the command(s)?

Thank you again for your time.

:D Hello,
That comes from Puppy running as root, it will work if you click "restart the xscreensaver daemon now"...But it has no slideshow...I made it like 2 years ago...needs updating...
The puppy basic screensaver pet in the same folder does a slideshow of /usr/share/backgrounds by default...But the .pet is messed up: So I repackaged it to install correctly, (I hope LOL)
Anyone wanna give it a test??

Edit: hold on it failed my test LOL be back

Thank you Puppyluvr! I've tried everything I can think of to get Xscreensaver to run including trying to run the command xhost +localhost before launching xscreensaver. I found that suggestion at:http://www.jwz.org/xscreensaver/faq.html#root-fail.
It didn't work.

hi puppylover when I rub your xscreensaver package I get
depending on command-line options or the ~/.xscreensaver file.

Options include:

-display host:dpy.screen which display to use
-root draw to the root window
-verbose print diagnostics
-images / -no-images whether to allow image file loading
-video / -no-video whether to allow video grabs
-desktop / -no-desktop whether to allow desktop screen grabs
-directory <path> where to find image files to load
-file <filename> load this image file

The XScreenSaver Control Panel (xscreensaver-demo) lets you set the
defaults for these options in your ~/.xscreensaver file.

but the xscreensaver-demo won't run because of a missing glade file
could not load "xscreensaver-demo.gladexscreensaver-demo.glade22"
from /usr/share/xscreensaver/glade/ or current directory.

the glade file wasn't included.

:D Hello,
Yea, thats why "fontglide" dont work :D I had no idea what I was doing when I made that...LOL
I have compiled 5.08 [with GL support), but havn`t put it up yet...
I just did 5.07 because xscreensavers wasnt available for puppy yet, and I SO wanted to be the first one to put it on Puppy..LOL But it is really rough....But hey, it WORKED!!! I was thrilled...As I have progressed, (with help, aka from You, BruceB, ect, and tearing apart others work...LOL) I look at the things I did before and laugh...I promise not to release any more broken s$%^ OK?...LOL...But it does work, just not perfect...On mine, ( 5.08 ) with GL support, I included the RSS modules too..If I only had a better graphics card....
Hey, we all gotta learn somehow....

:D Hello,
I dug one up, and am repackaging it for Puppy...
ATM it is half finished...
It creates a menu entry in "Desktop" called "Slideshow" and uses /usr/share/backgrounds as its source. It includes the SDL libs it needs...
It will place an editable "call" script in /root...( type "slideshow" into a terminal to see the available options..)

It is not a screensaver, as it must by called from the menu.. I`m still working on the "mouse / keyboard activity" script to turn it into a screensaver.. When I finish it I will post it as a separate pet and / or combined with this one...

For now launch it from the menu, and close it by pressing "esc"..

Any testers???

quick test

Puppyluvr, I've just installed your .pet and it all seems to run well, but I'm not sure how to change the photo stream. Checked the options in rxvt, but still not sure how to change these options.

Cheers

Puppyluvr... Just wanted to say "Thank You" for your time and effort making this Super program for Puppy. I use it on 511 and it works great right from the download you provide on this page. I might add... it's people like yourself that keep Puppy alive and interesting. I have used many different distros in the past year but honestly, Puppy is without doubt, the best of them all... even right up to the date of this post! It does everything all the others did and then some...

@Puppyluvr,
Your sllideshow Pet is looking good! How is the work coming to make it into a screen saver? Anyway I can help make that happen?

I tested it on Puppy 4.3.1 running on Toshiba 2805-S401 with 254 RAM

Hi Puppyluvr,
I've downloaded your .pet and it works really well in my Puppy 511 thanks for this! :D
This would be great as screensaver in future puppies. How far are you on with making it work from mouse / keyboard activity?

If you need any testers please let me know and I'll gladly help.

8) Hello,
Well, seems redundant when you can just D/L the xscreensaver 5.10 package from the `butu repos in all the recent Puppies, and the RSS GL stuff as well....
And other than the root access thing, for less recent Puppies, my 5.07 pet ( available thru the "my pets" directory in my link below) works well, albeit without GL support...

I am very new to Puppy/Linux, so prolly something i did :)

Anyway, on several, though not all, of the savers in your package I get this error: Xlib extension GLX missing on display 0.0.

Is this fixable? Puppy Linux 5.2.

Thank you for making this package. (I am really hoping to get the Ant screensaver running like in Mint)

Thank you for any info.
Have a great day,
geo

:D Hello,
I rebuilt 5.07 using the binaries from 5.12. Look here:

Well thank you but.. that seems to be the same file I had downloaded?

I have now downloaded and installed it 3 times. I am looking under menu, desktop, desktop settings, then screensaver. when I open that window it says across top. Xscreensaver 5.07 10-aug-2008.

So what am I doing wrong?

Thank you for the help.

:D Hello,
From the linked post:
Basically it is all the 5.12 binaries launched from the 5.07 GUI...
Still installs as XScreensaver 5.07, but the PPM sees it as pupxscreensaver..
The savers themselves are from 5.12 built in 2011, on Lupu...
But the gui didnt compile properly, so I used the 5.07 one..
Since it is both 5.07 and 5.12 I just call it pupxscreensaver for now... :D
Just click OK in the "root user" warning box...
