PZombie - gui-based zombie process whacker v. 0.2b

Dear Puppians,
Here is a little gtkdialog-based script to kill zombie processes. If you don't have any, you can launch a safe one for testing via this program (C source included). The pet will make a PZombie entry in the System menu.
Have fun...
With kind regards,
vovchik
PS. I know - I suppose I went wild with the graphics.
PPS. I just deleted two spurious lines in the script, so if you downloaded within the last hour (18:00-19:00 CET), please get the current version. Sorry about that.
UPDATE: Added the two mods mentioned in my reply to Eyes-Only.
UPDATE (0.2.b): Added question to kill dialogue so user knows what to do if zombie is found.
NOTE: The source to showsplash - a little C prog I wrote some time back and which is used by pzombie - is contained in this this archive:
http://murga-linux.com/puppy/viewtopic. ... h&id=29796, if you want to compile it yourself.

Thanks for this Vovchik!!
This is
REALLY GREAT!! I've needed something like this for a VERY LONG time now, so this is perfect for me!
I am one Puppian who truly appreciates your dedication to Puppy and the Puppy Community as you've done a lot for us in bug-testing, translating, programming these types of apps, helping people - and so much more than I could ever remember to mention here. Thank you for your committment to the Puppy Linux Community! -
and likewise for being such a good friend to me personally here on the forums.
Cheers!/Amicalement!

Dear Eyes-Only,
Merci beaucoup! I will make a few minor changes soon. i.e.:
1. Eliminate the second confirmation dialog when killing zombies (it is superfluous).
2. Add a little animation during the time that pzombie is searching or killing so that the user does not think the machine is stuck. It takes some time to process on slow machines (e.g. my netbook).
If you can think of something else, please let me know. Feedback, positive or negative, is pretty important. I know that not everybody likes those aqua, pink and green pastels, but I must have been playing some bubbleball flash game recently and the chromaticity rubbed off
With kind regards,
vovchik

Dear Joe,
To get my fill of zombies, when I am not creating them on the computer, I tend to watch the old b/w (1968) flic "Night of the Living Dead". That games sleeve reminded me to watch it again.
With kind regards,
vovchik
PS. I will be posting a rev. in an hour or so containing the changes I mentioned above.

Hey vovchik
I was enjoying the zombie killing
the small zombie gif was funny
then all of a sudden as if the zombies wanted revenge
I killed the jwm zombie and got kicked out of X back to the command prompt
good thing I had the light on that was scary

Sadly I am not into zombie humour but I do get annoying zombie processes as in my ignorance I sometimes do things like try and mount a squash file of the wrong type and get a failed mount and then I can't unmount.
Does this deal with those situations? Does the tool do anything different to sending a sigterm to the the process or, if I am already using something like Htop, is this superfluous?
Thanks

Dear Lapis,
If you are happy with htop and a terminal, then use it. Unlike Pzombie, Htop does not search for zombies and does not have the point and click facility for killing an X app. And Htop cannot produce a zombie either
In actual fact, PZombie sends a SIGNAL 9 (SIGKILL) and not a SIGTERM via kill -9. As for killing a failed mount process, I don't know because I haven't had your particular experience. If kill -9 can't kill it, however, Pzombie will be not be able to either.
With kind regards,
vovchik

Thank you Vovchik. You explanation was very good and I am sure your application will be appreciated by many people.

That's all right. I seem to be especially good at creating them myself

Awesome Big_Bass! I decided to use that one for my icon in my install of the Zombie Killer. LOL!
Hmm... would also make a great avatar come to think of it as it bears a striking resemblance to me about now.
Thanks for sharing Big_Bass!
And once more to Vov-Chik: Thanks for the very useful programme as well mon bon ami Puppien!
Amicalement/Cheers!

Dear Joe and Eyes-Only,
I will definitely use that icon in the next release. I also bear some resemblance to that image.
Thanks....

Dear Joe,
I used my Pikona to modify your skull a bit, just for a bit of variation. Couldn't help myself.
