Recommended Security Precautions

#1 Post by brad »

I am running a full install of Puppy Linux 5.1 and have been looking at Recommended Security Precautions at http://puppylinux.org/wikka/Security. Was just wondering if this page is up-to-date and relevant to my Puppy 5.1.

If so could someone please tell me/explain how to install 'chkrootkit' please

How did you install it? This forum isn't much use if all you tell us is that you got it to work.

This is what i did to install chkrootkit.

I clicked on the install icon situated at the top of the Puppy Desktop and when the install window opened i clicked on the icon to run Puppy package manager which is at the bottom of the install window.

When the Puppy package manager opened up, i clicked on Configure package manager (bottom left) and when the new window opened, under Choose repositories i selected the following:

ubuntu-lucid-main
ubuntu-lucid-multiverse
ubuntu-lucid-universe

and clicked OK.
(you will have to restart Puppy package manager to see any changes)

After the restart i typed the name of the software/program i was looking for in the Find box clicked on Go and that was it!

You must make sure to read all the data that appears about dependencies just in case the software/program you want to install needs them and finally click on install.

Hope this just might help someone.
