pmusic, mplayer not working with quirky1.4 - was ok with 1.3

I have a gecko-surfboard where the puppies are running well with the exception of the latest quirky.
Concerning sound I get woof-woof when booting from CD, but pmusic does not play mp3-files or streams and mplayer does not even open when the desktop icon is clicked. All these are ok with e.g. wary 0.9.8, quirky 1.3 or lucid puppy......Checked download and burn repetedly
Any ideas on what could be causing this misbehaviour?

Open "console." Type gnome-mplayer

In Pmusic check if your soundcard is selected using the File,Preferences menu.
