Audio Interface in PuppyStudio3.3 (SOLVED)

I'm trying to get an A.R.T. "USB Dual Pre" to be recognized by Jack Control in Puppystudio 3.3 on a Toshiba Satellite Athlon X2 dual core 2mhz.

HardInfo reports "unknown USB 1.10 device" under USB devices.

alsaconf doesn't show a listing for the interface.

ALSA is configured so that "USB Audio CODEC" shows up in USB devices.

this page: http://linuxstudiopro.com/
lists the interface as being recognized by snd-usb-audio, but I don't know what needs to happen next.

Do I need to identify this device somewhere in the system?

thanks
geo

You didn't say if you ran alsawizard.

alsawizard brings up alsaconf

which looks like this:

It sees the card & correctly?

Then it does a sound test for you to hear, did it work?

There is also a built in card? If true, did you go into the bios setup and turn it off?

Also, has the USB pre ever worked> If so when, how, with what?

well, it sees "USB Audio Codec" and when I choose it and open alsamixer
it gives me one fader labeled: PCM.

when alsawizard does a sound test it sends it to the built in sound card
and nothing comes through the USB interface.

yes, there is a built in card, but i have not tried turning it off in the bios,
i'll give that a shot.

i saw it listed on linuxstudiopro.com as working with ALSA so i just
purchased it brand new. I suppose I could try to run it with Windows XP.

no entry for the built in the soundcard in the bios

can i turn it off from puppy?

and

even if i do,

i'm not so sure that solves anything.

more hopeful

I learned that when I choose:

USB Audio Codec

from the alsamixer
then unplug my USB Dual PRE
the mixer tells me the device has been unplugged.

so now I understand that ALSA does indeed see my device
which makes me more hopeful

but alsamixer only gives me one fader for this device
PCM playback
and tells me there are no capture capabilities for this device,
which leaves me baffled.

.

yeah, i'm a numb skull
ALL of my USB Audio interfaces are now working
it was that little arrow (>) on the device menu of the jack GUI
when I clicked on that I realized
the device is listed.

shame about that Puppy Studio thread going on elsewhere in the forum
I'm starting to do some incredible stuff with my simple laptops,
recording using live onboard effects and the like.
it's really getting fun

the USB interfaces are:

Alesis i02
Lexicon Omega
and ART Dual Pre

and the glorious thing is
you don't even need to load drivers for these like in windows

all (or most) of the functionality appears to be there!
