XDAF compile/install

#1 Post by nightflier »

I used xdaf under Vector Linux to provide some kind of "working" cursor indication. Having this kind of feedback addresses my impatience and makes the system appear more responsive. Now trying to do the same on Puppy 1.0.8 HD installed.

Downloaded usr_devx.sfs to / and rebooted
Downloaded source: http://freshmeat.net/redir/xdaf/34184/u ... .01.tar.gz
Extracted file and entered directory.
Followed instructions and got this far:
-----------------------------------------------
# xmkmf
imake -DUseInstalled -I/usr/X11R6/lib/X11/config
In file included from /usr/X11R6/lib/X11/config/Imake.tmpl:46,
from Imakefile.c:35:
/usr/X11R6/lib/X11/config/site.def:44: host.def: No such file or directory
In file included from /usr/X11R6/lib/X11/config/Imake.tmpl:111,
from Imakefile.c:35:
/usr/X11R6/lib/X11/config/site.def:147: host.def: No such file or directory
imake: Exit code 1.
Stop.
---------------------------------------
Trying next step:
---------------------------------------
# make
Makefile:8: *** missing separator. Stop.
#
----------------------------------------

I know just enough to search, read instructions and ask questions. Am I in over my head?

Edit: Ooops.. think I screwed up already.. this should have been in the "newbie" section. Can't delete  .. maybe mod will move.

If you're compiling programs, sounds to me you're past newbie. :)

Thanks. Still, I am new to Puppy and this forum.

Looks like xdaf may not work anyway. I found that some kernels don't report disk activity. It does not work in my current version of Vector (where KDE gives me different launch feedback).
