BaCon vs Gambas

Any opinions on Gambas (I think they just let loose with ver3) and BaCon? BaCon is newer I think so no IDE for it yet, but Gambas has been around for a while. But Barry from the main Puppy page seems to like BaCon.

Any opinions?

Bacon has BaconGUI, BaconGUI UPX and there is Tiny IDE, a GUI for Bacon. Try search the forum.

There are IDE creators as RHS mentions for Bacon but it is no match for the one in Gambas, which gives you far more control.

However last I looked Gambas needs the 320k interpreter as well as the code to run a program.

BaCon creates standalone C code - which is much smaller, faster and more efficient. Some of the reasons Barry prefers it no doubt.

Gambas is seductive but probably unsuitable for Puppy development
If you want a BASIC/Python like language look at Genie as well as BaCon

You should also look and learn Bashscript

Hope that helps :)

@RSH- Thanks for the 411, I guess that once again I am misinformed LOL. On a side note, what is this Lazy Puppy? I have tried to find it but keep getting caught in loop of thread after thread and then to another thread. Is it a package or is it a distro/spin of yours?

@Lobster- Thanks, that is what I was wondering about. I downloaded Slacko in a VBox and I found Genie in it but not the BaCon stuff, Guess I will have to download the dev file as soon as I can track it down.

Yes, the menus are in German at bootup. You can change the German menus to english (f.e) by using the countrywizard after bootup (menu-desktop) or directly after x starts. :!:

Choose English keyboard layout (f.e).

It should be easy - i do it all the time. :)
