Hi Everyone

I am a new user of linux for the last two days. I am running puppy 5.1.3 live cd. I had a lot of trouble getting started as things werent working as they should have, however I finally got it all happening wireless and all. Now it is up and running I am thrilled to surf the net is just so quick. I was a Windows 7 user and after s Facebook hack which ended up giving me 3 trojans I finally decided to try linux.

One issue I am having at the moment is that I want to run Yahoo Messenger. I previously had the chat program which runs independant of having your mail open. I have been looking for one to run with this version of linux and have had no luck finding one. I do not want to run through the mail. All versions I have found for linux are for other linux systems. Does yahoo chat run from this version and if so does anyone know where I can get it?

Thanks in advance for your help

Thanks for that. I tried what you suggested and got it all loaded etc.

The problem with that chat is I cant get it to run in a separate box at the bottom of the screen. If I shutdown the Meeby page the chat goes as well even though I click the button to work with it outside of the main Meeby page. Perhaps I am doing something wrong?

I would prefer a version that works with this puppy from yahoo. I dont know if Ubuntu for instance or another linux distribution will work with it. I know there is a yahoo messenger for Ubuntu

For Yahoo messaging, try Gyachi.

Here is a thread for Gyachi: http://www.murga-linux.com/puppy/viewto ... 19&t=48833

It's old but the installer still works. Use cn.scs.msg.yahoo.com for the server.

Pidgin should work for Yahoo IM, though you'll probably want to be sure you're using a relatively recent version (the latest version of Pidgin, as I'm typing this, is 2.10.3. If you want to be sure, check http://pidgin.im).

I'm not sure what you mean by "I cant get it to run in a separate box at the bottom of the screen.", though. Pidgin should run as a standalone program in its own windows.

You might try these builds:
Puppy Linux Discussion Forum :: View topic - Pidgin 2.10.0 and 2.10.3

Be sure to try both builds; as I'm not using Puppy 5, I couldn't tell you whether or not dejan555's build for Lucid would work better for you than my build for Puppy 4.3.1. The comments seem to imply the build for Puppy 4.3.1 works fine under some versions of Puppy 5, though.

I use m.ebuddy.com in a NetSurf browser window - nice and easy.
