1101 HA EEEPC and Racy: how to use function keys?

#1 Post by Kerry Blue »

Hi,

I installed Racy on a USB stick and all works fine , except for the menu's under the Function Keys.

Is there a package to activate (at least some of) the F keys?

I used the info from this link:

http://www.murga-linux.com/puppy/viewtopic.php?t=59590
To enable laptop function keys for volume, brightness, etc., just add this to the bottom of /root/.jwm/jwmrc-personal

Now I can adjust sound, but the icon doesn't change when I increase/decrease sound levels, but more important:

It doesn't work for adjusting screen brightness.

Help would be appreciated immensely, since I have to take this laptop to S. france, where the skies are very bright.....

Kerry Blue :

Good day mate.

Post your hardware specs...
plus the Puppy racy version.

It helps us to apply a better fix.

And post back....whether it works out or not.
Useful 4 the next bloke...with the same problem.

Cheers,....and hang in there....Chris.

Don't know if this will work in Racy but have a look see and maybe try anyways. You can always unistall the pets through Puppy package manager in Racy if they don't work in Racy.

Also maybe look for eeepc 1000Ha hotkey linux scripts at

http://support.asus.com/download.aspx?S ... shedid=n/a

or make a .sfs or .pet out of a .deb from

http://packages.debian.org/sid/eeepc-acpi-scripts

or put a request in at

First: thank you for your help.

UPDATE: I installed the ACPI Pet for Racy, but it didn't function.

BTW: If I may ask : how do I generally now for sure if software is compatible with e.g. Racy? That's not clear to me if it comes from another source than the included software manager.

I asked myself: will the fan of the Laptop be supported by Racy? I have no idea how I can check temperature .....

Another update: I installed Slacko to give it a try and now all menu's under the function keys seem to work.

However: when I close the lid of the laptop, the screen stays black when the computer wakes up and the microphone doesn't work under Skype...
And no: changing Alsamixer settings didn't solve this problem. No sound, whatever I do.

The temperature drivers mostly don't get recognized by the puppy scripts , reading entries created by depmod command .
rc,sysinit should run depmod at first boot after installation .

The two temperature drivers i know are it87 and coretemp , which create enties somewhrer in /sys directory

Code: Select all

modprobe --first-time coretemp
find /sys -type f -name "temp1_input"
find /sys -type f -name "temp1_input" -exec cat {} \;
36000
37000

For mobile pcs like laptops the thermal driver from the acpi section should create entries in /proc/acpi/* .

Common bootparameter :
acpi=off OR acpi=force (which means strict) OR acpi_enforce_resources=lax
