Which version of Puppy should I choose?

#1 Post by killmoves »

Hi guys. :D

I have this machine:

1GB of RAM
1,6GHz Via C7-M
VIA Chrome 9 onboard video processor

And I'm confused, i noticed that there are several versions of the puppy (Wary, Slacko, Lucid, etc.) but do not know which one would be best for my machine.

Can someone help me with this? In order to have the system lighter and faster the possible, which of these versions should I choose?

P.S.: Sorry for the bad English.

Hi killmove,

I think, for your box it doesn't matter, which puppy do you choose...they all will be fitting perfect. Because of my own "history" of using slackware, I started just with slacky and I'm very happy with it.

Any version of Puppy will be fast. With 1GB of memory, Puppy will load the complete operating system into memory(everything)
With Puppy versions there is no one good one to use.
They each have their own features.
The only way to really know, what works for you, is to try some out.
Any of the ones already talked about would be good to try.
If you can boot from a CD/DVD. Burn the ISO image of any Puppy version, to the CD/DVD (making a live boot disk), and try them out.
The one that works best for you, and you like, is the one to use.
You can also install Puppy to a bootable USB flash drive, if that is how you need to boot for testing.

Here is a Puppy specific Google search:

The things they do not tell you, are usually the clue to solving the problem.
When I was a kid I wanted to be older.... This is not what I expected
