I have been trying to use Puppy on a compaq Evo t20. I hacked Grub onto the firmware file and loaded it and it now boots over the network to a kernel and initrd file i specify.
I have been trying to use unleased to create a very minimal puppy with nothing but SSH, but as yet it doesnt work. (complains about modules when booting...)
Has anyone got a chosenpkgs.txt that has only the core files?
My current chosenpkgs.txt is:
0rootfs_skeleton-1.0.3 autologin-1 bash-3.0 bbc_provided-2003 bcrypt-1.1 bubbles-1.0.2a busybox-0.60.5 bzip2-1.0.0 coreutils-5.0 cramfs-1.1 date-5.0 db1-1.85 dhcpcd-1.3.22 didiwiki-0.5 diffutils-2.8.4 disktype-8 dosfstools-2.9 e2fsprogs-1.34-k2.4 e2fsprogs-1.36 find-4.1.20 gawk-3.1.2 gcc-3.3.1 gettext-0.11.5 glibc-2.3.2 grep-2.5.1 gzip-1.3.3 hdparm-5.3 ifplugd-0.18+0.25 kbd-1.08 ldd-2.3.2 libdaemon-0.6 libexif-9.1.2 libexpat-0.4.0 libghttp-1.0.9 libhardware-0.7.4 libieee1284-0.2.8 libopenssl-0.9.7 libpcre-0.0.1 libstdc++-5.0.5 libusb-0.1 libxml2-2.5.11 libz-1.1.4 libzvt-2.3.0 memtester-2.93.1 module_init_tools-3.1 modutils-2.4.25-k2.4 mp-3.3.7 mtools-3.9.8 ncurses-5.3 net_tools-1.60 nullhttpd-0.5.1 openssh-3.6p1 pciutils-2.1.11 popt-1.7 pptp_linux-1.3.1 sed-4.0.7 shutdown-1 squashfs-2.1r2 stat-5.0 tar-1.13.25 test-1 unionfs-1.0.11 unzip-5.50 util_linux-2.12 wget-1.8.2 zip-2.3

e2fsprogs-1.36 should not be there as have v1.34 for k2.4.
module_init_tools-3.1 should not be there, as have modutils for k2.4.
shutdown-1 is not needed.

With regard to making a minimal Puppy, one thing that I have never tried is the "mkinitrd" program.
-- you can see where I have used it in the "How to compile a kernel" page
-- the same thing could be done with a running Puppy, if you have mkinitrd installed.
You would need to look at the docs for mkinitrd. If you have Vector or Mandrake or whatever you should be able to rip mkinitrd straight out of it.
