Slacko 5.3.3 hangs on shut down (Solved)

#1 Post by mikkelart »

When shutting down or rebooting slacko 5.3.3 after first boot it hangs at "Puppy Linux is shutting down..." and i have to use the powerbutton to power off.

This happens both when saving and not saving to usb, or even using a liveCD. When saving to usb the saved filesystem i ruined when trying to boot again.

I've tried both the 4g and higmem iso, but no difference.

Any ideas whats wrong?

Hi mikkelart

At a guess your machine is objecting to something in the shutdown script. Have you tried any other versions of PUppy, also what is the Spec of your machine?

What happens if you Exit to Prompt and type shutdown?

Yes, I've tried 5.3.1 which shut down just fine. However my wifi did not work in that version.

I get the same result when exiting to prompt.

Specs:
Processor: IntelCore i7-2670QM @ 2.20GHz
Memory: 8GB
Graphic: Gforce GTX 560M
Wifi: Atheros Ar9300 Driver: ath9k
USB: 2GB

suggest you report it here-

(btw it may be easier to fix wifi in 5.3.1)

Dell computers seem to make problems with kernels later than 2.6.30/2.6.37/3.0

poweroff is fine but reboot seems to need "reboot=f" kernel parameter or "/sbin/reboot -f" option .

I have a Dell computer, but neither poweroff or reboot is okay.

Try boot option

acpi=off
or
acpi=force

Try with live CD
At boot screen hit F2 key
enter option
Puppy acpi=off
or
puppy acpi=force
The things they do not tell you, are usually the clue to solving the problem.
When I was a kid I wanted to be older.... This is not what I expected
YaPI(any iso installer)

You can also add that to the initrd line in syslinux config on
a flash drive or the kernel line in a grub hard drive install.

Inspiron 700m, Pent.M 1.6Ghz, 1Gb ram.
Msi Wind U100, N270 1.6>2.0Ghz, 1.5Gb ram.
Eeepc 8g 701, 900Mhz, 1Gb ram.
Full installs
