I borked Puppy by messing with xorg.conf (solved)

#1 Post by canbyte »

I was trying to get a dual monitor setup going per this thread
http://www.murga-linux.com/puppy/viewto ... 148#642148

I was following suggestions as noted on modifying xorg.conf but evidently didn't do it right. On reboot, it now stops just after an auto login (to xorg?) and waits. Unfortunately I didn't backup the pupsave file first and would hate to lose the work/settings. Is there a way to extricate from this mess or do I just have to start over with 5.3.3? I guess I forgot I couldn't just open the .conf file and set it back to the original (saved a copy) without somehow getting inside the _save file. Me noob!

Also hoping someone will visit the above thread to help me set up the dual monitor. Or maybe I should start a new thread for that in this forum (more traffic)??

Thanks in advance.

when it stops, type:

xorgwizard

when you are done with the wizard and back at the prompt type:

xwin

----

should work for you every time you bork the xorg.conf, so feel free to keep trying on the dual monitor thing

Thanks John, that worked perfectly. Puppy barks properly now!
