Clementine + qcomicbook in Lupu528?

#1 Post by Dromeno »

I would like to create a custom puppy with both qcomicbook
http://murga-linux.com/puppy/viewtopic.php?t=28255

and Clementine
http://distro.ibiblio.org/pub/linux/dis ... cid525.pet

problem is: qcomicbook requires muggin's qt 3.3.8, and Clementine qt4

as soon as qcomicbook is installed, Clementine refuses to start because of conflicting qt libraries. Is there a way to solve this, like both apps using their own favourite qt lib - or if that is not possible make qcomicbook use Qt4?

So far I have tried other comic book readers (Saluki has comic master and evince, and there is a comix floating around on the forum). But nothing is as fast, small and user friendly as qcomicbook. Also, I have tried the many alternatives for Clementine. Amarok, aTunes, and Jajuk come close. But only Clementine is both light on the RAM and offers options like "create a playlist with only songs from [birthyear]" and so many BPM.

Hmm....I solved that kind of problem by compiling qt4 libs my self and then I compiled Clementine and qcomicbook by using my compiled qt4 libs. Trying to get qt apps to work with each other when they are compiled in different qt libs leads to your described problem.

To compile clementine is not the easiest to compile though.

Hmmm... looks like lucid puppy does not have a fast/light comic book reader which is able to live with clementine right now. I have tried the alternatives today: comical 0.8 (still a .pup) and comix. The comical pup does not install (after installing the dotpuphandler I get a false warning that my disk is full when I try to install the comical pup). And Comix does not start after a successfull installation (it appears in the graphic part of the menu but does not start - I guess it is one of those python problems.

CBViewer (a java app) does work but by far not as fast as qcomicbook. (turning a page is s l o w). And Calibre can be used (converts .cbr to .epub) but it lacks a zoom function so the cartoons end up to be small.

I'm not too into comics myself but a good friend just mentioned the CBR format to me the other day so I was doing a bit of looking into it.

Have you guys tried this out?

http://comix.sourceforge.net/screenshots.html

I thought that looked pretty cool and would get you away from the qt problem.
Dependencies
Comix needs Python external link 2.4, PyGTK external link 2.12 and PIL external link (Python Imaging Library) 1.1.5 or newer to function.

To use the library you need pysqlite external link (which is usually included in the standard library for Python 2.5 and later).

You also need either the unrar or the rar program from RARLAB external link installed if you wish to read RAR (.cbr) archives.

ComicRack = king

The absolutely hands-down number one app for comic fanatics is Comic Rack. It is large and slurps resources - but beautiful (and one of the last remaining reasons to keep my machine a dual boot with windows)

http://comicrack.cyolito.com/downloads/ ... 09155.exe/

but unfortunately it is Windows only (I have not been able to run it under wine). Comix is indeed a good one (but it does not offer anything special which isn't yet in qcomicbook or comical while being less snappy.

I do have cbrpager comic book viewer in my dpup. Here is my dpup compiled version. The source can be found somewhere from the net. It compiled without fuss. This pet has simple rox right click extension included for .cbr mime type.

This application is not qt application. So it works independent of qt libs included.

EDIT: you might need to install libcanberra also if it does not start when you click it in menu > graphic.

Launch in in console: cbrpager...to see if it complains about missing libs.

Did you install a qt4 library package as well? Because the clementine .pet already has qt4 libs bundled with it.

On pup525 I installed ttuuxxx's qcomicbook-v0.3.4-i486.pet, qt-3.3.8.pet, and the clementine pet mentioned above.

Both qcomicbook & clementine start up OK.

Also, I repackaged Playdayz clementine .pet to, work with clementine-1.0.1, and uploaded as an sfs here. (35Mbytes)

Edit: Reuploaded with shortcuts set to none.
