Greetings!
Google search turned up mucho conflicting non-solutions. I'm running Precise Retro 5.7 and would like to place app icons on the toolbar just like Dropbox automatically did on install. Any suggestions much appreciated!
Thanks!

The things they do not tell you, are usually the clue to solving the problem.

Thanks for swift reply! I skimmed this topic and manage a gist of what you're all saying which sounds very clever but applying it is a little over the head of this tech newbie so I'll just sit it out and wait for a simpler newbie-friendly app interface to implement these complicated commands and procedures.
Please keep up the good work!

Depends on the Window/Desktop-Manager you are running . For jwm it is explained in the link bigpup gave you .
There is the jwmconfig suite in /usr/local that can be selected by Menu > Desktop > Desktop Settings > JWM configuration .
For enlightenment that should not be too difficult : Just right click into the shelf and select "Add Icon" .
Xfce , OpenBox or fbpanel - je ne sais pas .
