#1 Post by Copycat »

Hi there. Im trying to install Puppy Linux on a Premier Netbook. When it is initializing there are not any problem in text mode. But when it tries to load video mode, appears something like this:

What should i do? Please help.

I have a VIA/S3G UniChrome Pro II video card.

How are you booting Slacko?
From what?

This is probably a graphics driver issue.

Try to see if the Vesa driver will work.
It will usually work with any graphics hardware.

If you can get Puppy to boot to a prompt.

Run Xorgwizard.

Type xorgwizard at the prompt.
Select the vesa driver.
set resolution.
(pick one you know should work)
run test to see if it works.
finish xorgwizard.
back at prompt.
Type xwin
should see desktop.
The things they do not tell you, are usually the clue to solving the problem.

Im booting from an usb. I tried vesa driver and it barely works, i mean, at least can see logo's netbook but still distorted. When i want back to configuration screen (to select video driver), appears "fatal error: no screen found".

This is what it shows after running vesa driver:

While using xorgwizard.

Try resolution of
800x600

Try to also change the refresh frequency.
Try 60 or 70 refresh..

Set resolution.
Select test.
Select test X now.
After test results - select OK.
Select tweak.
Select tweak_xorg.conf
Select tweak_refresh
Scroll up or down ( some selections you will not see without scrolling)
High-lite desired refresh
Select OK
Select test X now.

VIA/S3G UniChrome Pro II.
I have similar so know nothing about them.

try websearching for modelines for it...thought openchrome had got past these problems by now unless you are trying an old version of puppy?

When searching use the machine name and linux...you will doubtless find other frustrated users.

Thank you very much!!, it worked enough to intall puppy in that netbook, but later shows the same problem at very first start of Slacko. I guess i need to edit config file on Slacko already installed in the netbook. At this moment i couldn't do this because a problem with the battery charger.

Any novelty i will post it. Again, Thank you!!! :D
