Rutilt is a wireless GUI written in C++/GTK that features:

* Scanning for available networks and connecting to open or WEP networks.
* Profiles for commonly used networks
* Displays link status, IP number, Signal level, Noise level, MACS
* Special support for Ralink devices (WPA)
* Other nice stuff (tray icons)!

I packaged this with Mark's dotpup wizard.

During install You'll be asked "Would you like to have Rutilt check for a profile called "run-at-boot" and automatically connect?". I made a script that will look at Rutilt's saved profiles for one titled "run-at-boot" if it finds one it will automatically connect to that network using iwconfig. If you answer yes it will make an entry in rc.local. For this script to do anything you must have your wireless module loaded before this script runs. Might be useful if you always connect to the same network. If you don't want / need this script just answer "no" and Rutilt will be installed normally.

Rutilt calls a script for DHCP, /usr/local/share/rutilt/set_ip.sh that I set-up for puppy.

Anyway this is a big improvement over WAG, especially since it's broke in 2.02, but also needs more space (380K). Give it a try!

EDIT: Aug, 15 Updated Rutilt to V.12. This fixes a bug in setting the rate.

I think so, the Rutilt web page is down right now. This is version 0.11, Romain emailed it to me, I dont know when it was posted on his site.

WPA support is only for Ralink Chipsets.

My wireless card under windows offers me WPA - does that mean I have the Ralink chipset? My card is the Intel IPW2200BG.

No, I think that's an Intel chipset. I didn't mean WPA is only supported for Ralink devices in Linux, but that Rutilt can only set WPA for Ralink devices.

I don't think WPA is implemented in a consistant way for Linux, but I haven't had much experience with it.

I think it involves the use of something called "wpa_supplicant", but I'm way too inexperienced to mess around with something like this. Just hoped that this software would sort it all out for me!

Thank you for this great little gadget. Works great!
Only wish I'd found it sooner. After messing with command line, discovering WAG in 2.02 was broke, fixing it, finally getting things working after hours of headscratching, then rutilt did the same job in two minutes.

Wow! Great program - another vote for inclusion in Puppy as a WAG replacement!

Rutilt works very well in pup202 & gives a lot of info in a clear manner - it's now a permanent resident on my toolbar. This is definitely a keeper.

It reminds me of the ministumbler utility that I used on my PDA to scan for available wifi networks.

There may be issues with pup1.0x - I tried it with 1.09CE - the display came up fine with all the right info - but it won't display an icon in the tray - so if you select the option to 'start hidden in tray' you're in trouble! - you won't ever see it again - not even if you uninstall and reinstall (The solution is to remove the obvious offending lines from the hidden /root/.config/rutilt/RutilT_options.xml file)

Bottom line is - this is a pup2.0x utility at present.

I was very excited to learn about rutilt and immediately downloaded and installed it.

Here is what happens when I run it on my laptop with Puppy 2.02

Critical error :
Can't find any wireless network interface.
Do you have the wireless extensions compiled in your kernel?
Code : 130

Any thoughts as to what may be broken, please?

My wired nic is working and wireless was working fine until I upgraded to 2.02

Will be at church and the hosting lunch guests so may not be able to reply until
mid-afternoon EST.

You'll get that error message if Rutilt can't find any wireless devices. Rutilt is only for wireless.
